Aliens with natural weapons AND normal weapons

I would like to request an implementation of aliens who have a natural (especially melee) weapon, but can also use normal alien weapons like rifles and grenades.

I probably wouldn't be whining about adding new stuff when 1.0 is still requiring plenty of work, but this particular feature will be required for TFTD anyway (lobstermen), and I believe TFTD is considered a valid project in itself, just much less prioritized.

Why do I want this feature now? Because I want to implement Lobstermen to the current X-Com. :) I believe there is a logical gap in the alien races, basically there is no race that has really good armour value, which would require new tactics. But I'm sure there would be many other uses for this feature for the modders.

I once suggested melee weapons for aliens... ^^

Sectoids = Vibroblade (Xcom troopers can research)
Floaters = Thermic lance (Xcom troopers can research)
Snakemen = Poisonous bite (Xcom can synthesize a version in a syringe after researching both a dead and live Snakeman)
Mutons = Strong (falcon) punch (power armour Xcom troopers with high strength can do it as well)
Ethereals = Some kind of psionic mind whip (strong Psionic Xcom troopers can learn)

...that's not really what I meant guys, but OK, we can play :D

Then sure, hand-to-hand damage is viable... I mean, breaking a Sectoid's neck doesn't require too much strength, right?

Close combat was an original feature included in the manual that was not included in the game.  They had this even in rebel star raiders, rebel star, laser squad...  I wish they had it in xcom.  I'd recommend something like a ratio of 70% stun damage vs 30% real damage.  Not sure how Julian Gollop would have implemented it....

Hell, maybe I should ask him on facebook...

In laser squad you could get knives for close combat.  And they had light sabers in rebelstar.

Never got into close combat for TFTD.  I really hated the tech tree, that you had to capture live aliens for some tech.

Would be interesting if a muton got up and knocked out your whole squad....

You can add melee weapons as the game is right now, there are many mods that add knives etc. However, we're discussing something else: the ability tol do melee damage without any held weapons. I wanted a special attack for the Lobstermen, and the other guys wanted everyone to be able to punch things with power related to their strength (which I'm totally fine with, as long as Lobstermen get a special damage bonus for their claws).

I do like your idea in the op. Snakemen should be able to take a bite out of you, but I couldn't think of anything else for the rest of the aliens.

Not a bite out just bite and the venom produces a lot of fatal wounds ^^
