Can UFOs hunt our aircraft?
« on: February 16, 2014, 12:07:27 am »
I was just wondering if we could get the UFOs to hunt our Skyrangers when they heading to mission or returning to base or just try and destroy a paroling Interceptor looking for their base. Some ideas, but no idea how to go about it:-
- one or more UFOs gets detected near your craft heading towards your units
- During Intercept, we have little to no control
- The sequenced is forced into Standard or Aggressive mode for a set amount of time before auto disengage
- Doesn't really require the UFO to reengage, either let your aircraft off the hook or simply spawn another UFO to try and kill you again.
-No new UFOs required, unless its agreed that a Hunter/Killer or fighter type UFO is needed (first, the earlier bits have to work >_< )

This is One of Two major things I think will be fun to add ^_^ Thinking it might be challenging & fun if we got hunted for a change, Imagine your skyranger coming home and detecting a UFO or UFOs >_< out to get it. Scramble the Interceptors! ^_^ or start having our fighters fly Escort.
It will also be funny if UFOs came to shoo away our fighters from finding their bases ^_^

I have no idea how extensive such a request is >_< sorry about that. It mostly depends on getting the UFO to come to us and if the interception controls can be forced without us pushing buttons....

Great idea. I think Xenonauts has this done, but I haven't checked on that project for over a year. I only know that fighters can escort the Chinook, because aggressive UFOs can harass any of your aircraft.

Would be nice to see this in X-COM, but I think it's too complicated. So I suggest this is an easier way to implement the fighter escort feature. If you add an interceptor with your Skyranger, then when a UFO attempts to hit your Skyranger, the UFO will engage the Interceptor. If you lose, both aircraft go down. If you win, you keep going.

If they're small fighter UFOs, when they crash land, then let the alien pilot die and automatically pick-up the remains when your Skyranger touches it, with a score screen letting you know what you were able to salvage.

You should be able to rescue your squad if your Skyranger gets shot down by a UFO. I'd be upset if I lose everyone from a surprise attack while flying over to a Mission. Especially if I didn't know about this new feature.

I was hoping the Intercept controls could be hardwired to fake it, but I think the hardest thing is getting the UFOs to chase our craft.

Also, I was hoping the radar detection alert would give fair warning, but adding a down skyranger mission would be great! ^_^ But far beyond the game capability >_< I mean, what happens after you win? Do your troops repair the skyranger and go home?

Good question. Wait for the rescue team(janitors, engineers, and office personnel come to the rescue) after you defend yourselves from the landed UFO(same UFO that brought you down).
So after you remove every alien, you're automatically rescued.

You may as well even cancel the mission you were heading out to before the fall, because Skyranger repair may take awhile.
