I always assumed (or is it in the fluff text?) that the medkit uses some kind of nano-technology, basically an automated healing system. which is why it needs to be researched, and why it has charges.

so it would make sense that the medkit can be used to heal aliens once they are researched (autopsy + live alien) :)

Well, they probably shouldn't be; logic dictates so. But still, it might be interesting from a gamey point of view.

I may be wrong, but i do remember unstunning an alien using a medkit.  May not heal wounds, but I do think it can heal morale and stun.

You can only heal a unit with a medkit if it has a wound. If you can use one of the other functions, you can probably heal the alien if it is wounded.
