[Solved] issues with running oxce 8.0
« on: January 15, 2025, 05:52:26 pm »
I am having problems with the latest 8.0.0 build dated 30.12.2024.

A) I can load and run the 7.15.0 version dated 1.11 24 of  OXCE with no problems. However when I download the 8.0.0 win 64 version dated 30.12.2024 and install over 7.15.0 ( or even run in a separate folder ) I run into problems.

The game seems to load ok and i get the intro and options . However after making my selections and pressing  the OK  button I am thrown back to the desktop and can proceed no further.

Has anyone any thoughts ?

B) Also if I try to add the Final Mod Pack as an option  I receive an error message stating that the game is missing a colon in Ruleset/Soldiers_fmp.Rul: RapidYaml   "error could not find : after Key". Whatever this may mean.

The Final Mod Pack works ok under the 7.15.0 build which I have in a separate folder.

Can you attach the log file (after the crash) please?

What is the version of the Final Mod Pack?

Meridian,

Thank you for your reply

A)   Log file attached . Hope it is of use.

B) Have just updated the Final Modpack from 3.2.2 (?) to 3.4. but still throws me to desktop . The 7.15.0 version runs ok but 8.0.0 will not run.

If you require anything further please advise as I would like to have version 8.0.0 running if possible

A)   Log file attached . Hope it is of use.

The issue is in file `D:/OpenXcom Extended V2/common/SoldierName/Belarusian.nam`
There's a colon missing somewhere, probably after `femaleLast` attribute.

However also, this file is NOT part of OpenXcom and should NOT be there!

Please do not copy new files to common/standard folders or change any files there.
These two folders are reserved for developers only.
If you want to change something, create a mod please.

B) Have just updated the Final Modpack from 3.2.2 (?) to 3.4. but still throws me to desktop . The 7.15.0 version runs ok but 8.0.0 will not run.

You need at least Final Modpack version 3.5

Just to add a note to something else in your log:
Quote
[16-01-2025_08-59-12]   [ERROR]   scanModDir('F:/Users/David/Documents/OpenXcom/', 'mods'): modId final-mod-pack already mapped in, skipping xxxx Final Mod Pack
This indicates you have multiple copies of FMP in your mods folder, since there's no guarantee it will load the right version it could be problematic. It's best to have a single copy of any mod in the mods folder. This also applies if you have a mix of extracted mods into folders and zip files. If you want to keep older copies of anything, move them to another folder.

One trick to "disable" other versions without copy them od deleting them is add `.` as fist character of folder name, then OXCE will ignore it and look for other files.

Meridian and others ,

Many thanks for your inputs.

A ) Mod was "Nationalities Expanded" which was in the Mods folder and appeared to be the one causing the problem. I have deleted this and the game now runs.

B) I do ( and did )  have FMP v3.5 installed ( apologies , my error ) but what is throwing me is that on the game options screen is the following infomation :

"You are running the latest OpenXcom version"
"Open X-com Final Mod Pack 3.4"
"Open X-com Extended 8.0.0 (v2024-12-30)"

The game seems to be running ok now , just don't know why the opening screen should show a FMP 3.4 version in use when I have 3.5 installed ( the majority of file dates in the FMP mod folder are 3.1.2025 , with some 17.12.2024 )

Where can I download this mod?

That's probably a wrong translation in your language.
Feel free to report to the modder.

Meridian,

A) The mod that is not working is " Nationalities and Flags Expanded Pack " mod by B1ackwolf.  You last posted in this forum thread on 4.1.2024. It appears to be ok but throws me out to the desktop if I install it and activate the mod in the mod options list of OXCE.

B) RE version of FMP - Not sure what you mean by "wrong translation in my language". I am a native English speaker and all mods and downloads have come from the English language OXCE Pages.

Reported here https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php?topic=2027.msg169218#msg169218
Basically the US version is fine, not the GB one.

That mod does indeed crash the game, I will look at that separately. Edit: More info: https://openxcom.org/forum/index.php?topic=10976.msg169223#msg169223

However it is not the cause of the issue from your log file.
That mod doesn't even contain the file Belarusian.nam (it contains a file called differently: 10-Belarusian.nam).
Glad you were able to resolve the issue anyway, just remember not to make any changes in the folders called "common" and "standard", it will save you a lot of trouble.
Cheers.
