Some mod suggestions for a new player
« on: August 04, 2021, 11:35:32 am »
Hey Folks, I am not playing TFTD since I was using DOS.. just got bored from X-COM 2 Long War and wanted to return to my... our, origins.
I found openXcom and I am very nostalgic right now.
Which mods can you suggest me to use to keep the same atmosphere with today's quality? I just listened The orchestra of the Deep and I am blown away.

BTW the mod portal seems like it is down is is a temporary thing?

Thanks

The biggest mod for TFTD is TWoTS: https://openxcom.mod.io/the-world-of-terrifying-silence
(it is quite difficult, so I'd recommend playing on middle difficulty first)

Mod portal is online: https://openxcom.mod.io/

I like to recommend Reaver's Faithful mod to newer players. It's very much like the original game, but makes a number of changes and new content in line with the original game.

If you're feeling more adventurous I can attest to the X-com files, it's one a hell of a mod.

As for Terror from the Deep, Meridian's suggestion TWoTS is definitely top tier, though his warning is not a joke. It is brutal.

A nice easy small mod to re-learn the game mechanics is "lost war".

Small story, small maps, small itemsets.
Small game.
