With so many new facility types, space in a base is always at a premium. And even when we have our own Skyranger-sized craft, it can be useful to still have a car, to go for smaller missions like eradicating spiders and other low-threat creatures.
Yet although they are small cars, they require a giant hangar each.
Could it be possible to have a 1x1 building as a garage, which would only accept cars?
Even better, some cars are described in the lore as not even being inside the base. Our agents go by plane to the destination and then rent a car there. So there is no need to have space for the car inside our base!
Is it a technical game engine limitation to require a 2x2 hangar for every vehicle, to not be able to create different "hangars" for different vehicle types, or to have multiple vehicles per "hangar", or specific types of vehicles which don't require hangars?

To answer some of your questions, there are mods that allow you to have hangars for 1, 2 or 4 vehicles.
For the 1x1 hangars I think it's an old request but I don't know if there is a mod!

To answer some of your questions, there are mods that allow you to have hangars for 1, 2 or 4 vehicles.

This is trivial to do manually. Just open facilities_XCOMFILES.rul with any text editor, search for "crafts: 1" and change that number.
But it doesn't make a difference between craft types. You could have 4 Skyrangers or 4 sports cars if you change that number to 4. What I meant was to have different hangars and different hangar capacities for different craft.
On the other hand, I could just play fairly and limit myself in what I do. So I increase that number but I still don't use the hangar space for vehicle types which shouldn't fit there, as a self-imposed limitation.

This is on TODO list, but implementation is tricky (as multiple corner cases need to be handled),
because of this it will take long time to be ready.
