Q about the gear items.
« on: August 01, 2018, 09:18:49 pm »
I know I read somewhere that a person who wants to wear a gear (such as the anti-acid coats, gas masks, or whatever) just go into your inventory.

My Q about this, is it supposed to limit the weapons you can carry? Cause the acid coat is too big for your backpack, so you put it in your hand, well that means the person carrying it is limited to 1 handed weapons. Am I missing something?

You are not missing something, while "gear" slots would be neat the engine doesn't support them. So stick the thing somewhere in your inventory to get the effect is the best we can do. That said fitting certain items on certain outfits does require the use of hand slot. As you advance in tech this becomes less of a problem as outfits will have larger inventories.

And better resistances overall. Chemcoat is good for most cases and for uniforms with a 2x3 or 3x3 backpack.
Chem. and Plasma-protection is worth alot and a radiator-shirt can save alot of downtime and lifes later on.

I prefer more gear to less gear, what is the best armor overall for loadout and protection?

That's really tough to answer, there's a ton of different armors with wildly different resists.  That being said, something like Defender or Guardian armor has pretty solid protection with a lot of gear space.

It depends. For some missions you'll want armor to protect against gunfire (tac vest & armor), for some others you'll want to breathe (underwater & space missions), for some others you'll want laser or plasma protection (personal refractors), for some others you'll want some chem&bio protection (smokey). And you'll want something different for your VooDoo gals.

There is no "best armor overall". Each piece of armor suits a different purpose. Look over the characteristics of each, and think about what the mission needs. The in-game Bootypedia is your friend.

Specialist armor like personal-refractor only does the job against laser/plasma to a degree.
Yes 65% absorb of any laser-source looks strong on paper but lasers still ignore 1/3rd of armor-value and roll 0-200%

High-power lasers like one of a sectopod can punch through and heavily wound/kill in one shot.
Also the refractor has no piercing protection so a single dude running around with a magnum can do massive damage to your unit since it only has to surpass 20 armor.

Armor that combines a good chunk of piercing/laser/plasma resistance is the best all-purpose armor and the protective gear stacks into the resistances.
Go guardian armor, add a chem-coat, protective googles and a radiator-shirt and you can negate alot more damage for the sacrifice of inventory space.

One other thing to note about gear items:  they have "slots."  These don't affect placement in inventory in any way, but its an abstraction of what area is affected or occupied by the gear.  It also bars using two items that occupy the same slot.  Example: Exquisite Lingerie and Durathread Bra both occupy the "bra" slot and are therefore mutually exclusive.

1x1 items exist in form of hellerium charms. 1x1 items should offer only a very tiny boost to something like morale or stamina regen. And also 1 gearslot (finger) only.

How do handheld shields stack with build in armor ones?

Things like the "Riot-Shield" only adds cutting protection for the 1 shield in the inventory at any given time.
It offers no armor value, just cutting-resistance.

The new handheld energy-shields (type 2) have their own HP and absorb damage up to the threshold before shutting down.
Shields that are "fixed" to outfits like the crusader shield of the crusader/slave is counted into the total armor-value and can't be removed by any means during battle.

I think he was talking about the handheld power shields, and say something like destructor or moloch armor with inbuilt shields, to which i haven't the faintest idea.

Handheld shields must be depleted before the armor-based shields, unless they don't block a certain damage type that is blocked by the armor shields.
