[SOLVED] Error occurred while spawning mission site: STR_ALIE
« on: September 21, 2017, 07:11:47 pm »
I installed Xcom (Steam). I used installer to install OpenXcom nightly build: " git 2017-09-16 22:01".
I didn't get far until I got an error: "A fatal error has occurred: Error occurred while spawning mission site: STR_ALIEN_TERROR".

What went wrong and what can I do?

I've attached log and save files.

You forgot to mention that you have also activated 23 additional mods.

What went wrong and what can I do?

Try deactivating mods... most likely one of them is broken or they may be incompatible with each other.

Disabled all mods. Dismantled Large Quarters which was being build.

New error: vector::_M_range_check: __n (which is 36) >= this->size() (which is 7)

Well, disabling mods in the middle of the game does not get rid of everything... some things are written in the save file.
Best is to start a new game.

If you still want to continue with this game, you can fix your save file.
Look for:
Code: [Select]
    missionSiteZone: 36
on line 708 and change the number 36 to something smaller than 7.

missionSiteZone 36 is likely a feature of one of the mods you had installed, something that makes alien missions more complex. Changing the value to a lower number won't necessarily fix it and may just introduce more problems.

If you aren't experienced at playing with mods and troubleshooting them, then I would advise you to keep your number of mods low. You may be able to run several small mods as long as they all influence separate parts of the game. But the best way to get a heavily-modded experience is to play with one single mega-mod or total conversion pack. You can also seek out mod-packs, in which each mod is separate but all are known to have compatibility with each other. With a mod pack, you can pick any combination of the mods that you like.

I found out the culprit. Can't remember anymore which one it was.

Then the difficulty level hit me in the face right away in the first mission. I wasn't any better at it than I was in the 90s. I'll stick with the modern XCOMs.

Thanks to both of you for your help.
