I've got in my computer a number of files that were used by the UFO2000 project (a multiplayer version of UFO) which include the sprites and inventory weapons on .png format for the following weapons (includes ammo clips):

*BA50 rifle
*M-16 assault rifle
*AK-47 assault rifle
*M-4 carbine
*FAMAS assault rifle
*G-3 assault rifle
*MP5 SMG
*SA80 assault rifle
*SAW LMG

Plus, there's also graphics for bazooka, M16 + M203 Grenade Launcher, Claymore mines, Glock/P227 pistols and a couple more.

I wasn't the designer for these images and they were only authorized for use in UFO2000 and I don't have time to implement them but if someone is interested I can give the email of the guy who originally designed them for you to contact, and if he authorizes, I'll share the files.

Any takers?

EDIT: meanwhile, this has been posted elsewhere and it seems you don't need to ask permission as long as you credit the images.

How I see it, the only way to add these weapons in a sensible way would be to wait until armed civilians are enabled.

As it is now, X-Com uses cutting edge weaponry, definitely better than these designs from the middle of the XX century. Giving them kalashnikovs would in my opinion make little sense.
However, if we had ordinary soldiers and SWAT officers running around the battlefield, these guns would find a perfect place. :)

A few of these look like they would work really well with robin's Men in Black mod, considering that the MiB start with basic Earth technologies.

Well, I instead think it'd be more fittin, considering the amount of tecnological weapon the player will get after havin researched lase weapons, plsu it'd add a bit more realism.

Edit: should this threab be moved into "Suggesitons" or "Modding/experiments"?

I'd love to have more ballistic weapons; my only reservation is that real-world guns look very different from the guns in X-Com, which are cartoonishly bulky and oversized. I'm working on some new guns myself and I think I might have to redraw them because they look too "real."

Those are some good sprites, though, regardless! :)

I'd love to have more ballistic weapons; personally, my only reservation is that real-world guns don't fit in very well with the art style; guns in X-Com tend to be cartoonishly bulky and oversized, and real guns look too slender in comparison.

Weel, it dependes on how they are maded by an author? :/

Yeah, not to imply that real-world guns are automatically a bad idea. Just, I would cartoon them up a little.

Yes. I'd also remind also to add the cartoon aspect.

But the entire game graphics are chibified! Look at the paperdoll: these aren't real human proportions. It's a design decision, and a good one (sprites with more realistic proportions usually look awful in isometric view, especially in low res).

Yeah, that's what I mean; all the art is comic book style, so realistic firearms tend to look out of place. Nothing wrong with the game's art, but it's a very consistent style and new weapons should stay true to that.
