What does the UFOextender Gun Melee Mod

Hi!

Since the wonderful new options menu is available, I came across the available mods.

Can someone please tell me what the "UFOextender Gun Melee" option is all about?
I can't find any information on that on https://ufopaedia.org or google.

It gives a "melee attack" with every weapon.

It's called "Stun Fest" in UFOextender, but I think that would be even more confusing. :P
