editing .nam files
« on: October 25, 2013, 08:25:26 am »
I tried adding a few names to the .nam files in the 'soldiername' folder using Notepad, but was unable to save my changes. Can I edit these files with another program, or is there some trick in Notepad?

What happened when you tried to save the changes?

Did you get an error?

When I tried to overwrite the file I get a 'access is denied' message. It seems all the folders and files in 'data' are read-only, but when I try to change this in the folder properties, I get another 'access denied' message explaining that I need to provide administrator permission. But I AM the administrator.

Have you installed to Program Files?

Try downloading the standalone (zip) game, not the installer, and unzip it somewhere where you are guaranteed to have write access - like your desktop.

See if you can edit the files there, then copy the required data files to this "installation folder" (see the wiki for that) to get a working game.
