Some minor questions regarding soldier names in FMP
« on: April 04, 2018, 05:10:15 am »
Regarding soldier names:

1: if i delete a .nam, will it crash an already existing save game?

2: if i apply new names to the files, will they be available on an already existing save game?

3: if i edit any names, i must edit it the respective SoldierNames in both /data and /common - correct?

4: if i add a new name, do i just add a new line or must i put it in alphabetical order? it doesnt matter?

1/ no
2/ yes
3/ openxcom 1.0 has /data, openxcom nightly has /common... you need only one... if you're using nightly delete /data completely
4/ new line, they don't need to be in alphabetical order

So... if there are no .nam files, it will just create some random names? because i tried to remove all other .nam files so i would get only GERMAN names (German.nam), but i still get a bunch of non-german names in my save game when i order new soldiers.. why is that?

Also, i have a /common .. which version do i have then? not the v1.0?
