No sound on Linux Mint 17.3
« on: January 21, 2017, 04:32:51 am »
Hello!

I installed the latest nightly from the PPA on the downloads page. When I run the game I don't hear any sound. I also tried installing the three recommended packages when I installed the PPA: musescore-soundfont-gm, fluid-soundfont-gm, and freepats. I'm not sure what they are for, but they sounded (heh) sound-related. Note: I installed the game on Linux Mint 18 (on my laptop) as a test and got sound out of the box.

I did a search and saw this thread, but my log doesn't indicate an error, so I am a little stuck at the moment. For reference, this is what my log captures:

It might sound like a no-brainer, but did you check if the sound is enabled in the game options since your log indeed does not seem to indicate an error.
Perhaps you can provide us with an image of the settings on the sound page, so we can check if something is wrong there.

...

...
Those are all MIDI soundfonts, you need only one of those in order to play midi files (freepats is default dependency of sdl_mixer).

Thanks for the reply!

I managed to fix it. Linux had defaulted the sound device to "Analog Output". After I changed the game to windowed mode I checked the tray icon and changed the setting to my TV. Voila, sound.

I feel dumb but I'm not a Linux expert (yet...) and I have never encountered that before.

Thanks again for replying! Is there a way to mark the thread resolved?

EDIT: Random question... since I installed the game via the PPA, when new builds are pushed will I get the update notifications automatically in the Software Manager, or is it a manual process?
