I was thinking you could use battlescape tooltip text area  for more in game information.

When you click on aim and  mouse is over an enemy unit then the engine estimates the possible damage range (Base Weapon Damage × Random Weapon Range).

"Damage: -40 to 10"

HE only displays ground zero damage. Incendiary only displays initial damage. Non weapons display 0.

And perhaps other info.

I like it, in conjunction with a mind probe you could work out if a hit from a particular weapon will stun an alien or outright kill it. Useful when you're needing live captures especially the higher ranks of aliens.

or you could use it for example to determine how hurt an enemy looks like.

if you mouse over  without aiming on a tile  that contains an enemy unitwill say "looks: unhurt" or "looks: hurt" "looks: almost dead" etc

Rookie critically missed and took %damage points, weapon exploded, knocked down, hurt himself and lost next turn.
Sectoid is peppered with fragments for %damage points
