openTFTD help please. mods?

I'm new to X-Com. I'm looking for options/mods to make TFTD better, such as making underwater weapons usable on land. When I say I am new, I've never played any of the original X-Com games until 2 days ago. Yes I know TFTD is harder, but TFTD is exactly where my interests lie at the present. I've briefly used TFTDExtender. It's useful, but I am hoping I can get those improvements WITH openXcom. I could not find a way to combine XcomUtil with TFTDExtender, the former of which had certain features such as increasing armor values for the Aquanauts. Where would I go to accomplish any of this with openTFTD/Xcom?

While its been released to the public, OpenTFTD is more or less in beta at the moment, and the development staff is still focused on clearing out the bugs, so there's not much in the way of mods yet (though tons of them will inevitably be arriving over the next couple of months.)

If you want though, you can go to the folder OpenXcom/standard/xcom2, and edit the rulesets used for Terror from the Deep. They can be viewed and edited with standard NotePad or WordPad. This page should give you a basic idea of what you're looking at, though I believe a few things have been added for TFTD:
