Mind shield
« on: November 03, 2014, 12:07:32 pm »
Lost my last game as both my mindshielded (and previously undetected) bases were lost in less than 2 days. So I wondered: How much of a help are those really? In the Ufopedia it says it reduces the chances of detection drastically.

What EXACTLY does that mean in numbers?  :-[

it's a divisor.

odds == (math) / (1 + mind shields)

That`s an answer that leaves me more puzzled than before...  :D

*looks at answer for several minutes*...

ok so it reduces the chances from 100% of the original chance to 50% of the original chance?  :-\

right?

0 mind shields = x/1 = 100%
1 mind shield   = x/2 = 50%
2 mind shields = x/3 = 33%
etc...

depends on difficulty.
for the superhuman (4) and fully filled base (6x6 modules with 2 x 2x2, so 30 modules):

0 mindshield: 60% chance to detect
1 mindshield: 30%
2 mindshields: 20%
3 mindshields: 15%
4 mindshields: 12%

for beginner (0):
0 mindshield: 20%
1 mindshield: 10%
2 mindshields: 7%
3 mindshields: 5%

Detection is performed each 10 minutes by alien crafts which is on retaliaton mission (or every craft if "Agressive retaliation" is ON).
For the beginner it's quite handy, but for harded difficulty it's more effective to have two gravshields and 3 blaster defenses or something. Each extra gravshield repels craft and allows for extra missle rounds.

They stack, but each extra won't add alot. There's no actual point to make more than 3. And 2 is actual practical "enough".
