[SUGGESTION] PsyAmp direct line of sight setting
« on: July 21, 2014, 07:09:29 pm »
Hello there,
today i came up with a thought that psy amp must be some kind of weapon that is not working through walls.

Have a look:

this device can probably work
1. by fireing up
2. like a regular directed wapon

our psy soldiers never leave ranger, wich is somewhat wrong, making soldiers to see alien before they can psy attack will completely change out tactics. and its defenetly a setting wich do game harder.
And even more hardcore setting: loose control over an alien, who left a line of sight.

what do you think?

Uh... There's the "UFO Extender psionic line of file" mod, bundled with the game.

No problem.
I'm actually using this mod, since vanilla psionics seem a bit crude to me. :)

I think that nerfed the alien psi attacks too? Which makes the game too easy.

Yes, because sitting through psi-attack barrages is totally fun and balanced. :P

That said, you can go into the .rul file for the Psionic Line of Fire minimod (../OpenXCOM/data/Ruleset/...) and make it so only the psi-amp requires LOS but aliens still have fruity 'psi attack any member of the entire squad/platoon if they can see even one member of it' mechanic if you want.

The perks of modding. ;)

The cool thing would be:
- Psy-panic any soldier you are aware of (within LoS of any squad member)
- Mind Control soldiers in personal LoS only.

I don't mind getting panicked by aliens I can't see so much and I very much like being able to support isolated agents by panicking the aliens they are facing. Being mind controlled with nothing in sight is no fun and mind controlling anything you are aware of means never needing to leave the craft and makes the game too easy.

I have nothing to add.
Give this man a plasma rifle! :)
