Soldiers' Names
« on: October 29, 2013, 03:47:08 am »
Something I loved in the original game was that the soldiers had 'mixed names'; you often got some funny combinations, like Anatoly Fukushima etc. This gives the impression that this society in the not-to-distant-future is very cosmopolitan, with many multi-ethnic families. I'm glad that the soldiers' names are no longer euro-centric (now there are Arabic, Kenyan, Polynesian ones etc.) but Arabic first names are always paired with Arabic surnames and so on.

Pairing names by nationality was in original though. In fact even though it was supposed to be hard to get soldiers with the same name I almost always seemed to have a Jurgen Meyer and a Jungo Iwahara every game. I don't recall ever getting a mixed nationality like Jungo Meyer though.

The .nam files are easily editable though so if you want you can just combine them to get a huge list of first names and surnames.
