save issue
« on: October 24, 2013, 11:19:37 pm »
depends on how old the previous build is.
you might have to un-prime your grenades see here
and you'll definitely want to re-set your fire speed setting

Current build creates 0 bytes savegames on Geoscape:  loading "autosave" letting those two floaters shoot themselves and us with stun bombs, coming to Geoscape, letting Skyranger arrive to base, then try to save: CTD.

openxcom_git_master_2013_10_24_1752
Beginning from the last 2 or 3 builds. Game "saves" then CTD.

Beginning New Game and saving after base creation, causes no CTD.

I changed nothing since last bug report. Only came out of this mission: see attached file "autosave.sav".

Before this mission begins, loading this saved game "29.sav" , which is on Geoscape and saving again, the game saves correctly.  Something must have happened during that mission.. :(

Thank You Warboy!

Your help is greatly appreciated, because I grew so fond of my soldiers since your revolutionary AI. In this mission the SuperHuman AI was so fun, the game reached a whole  new level of awesome!

In the future I will take extreme care with MOD editing and savegames.

One more problem:  Loading on Geoscape

Now the save game works fine so the game continues after saving on the Geoscape.

When I try to load these new saves on Geoscape, the game CTD-s.

SOLUTION TO: CANNOT LOAD SAVED GAMES WITH NEW GIT BUILDS

If you are using a LOT of MODs:

Bug fixed.

The problem was with the SOLDIERS & EQUIPMENT.

 Here is what i did:

  • Unequipped all my soldiers
  • Sold all my soldiers
  • Sold their equipment.
  • Sold all XCOM equipment in stores especially modded ones.
  • Saved this game, resulting in a much smaller filesize.
  • Edited savegame: Deleted dead soldiers from memorial section.
I could load this small savegame without soldiers, without modded equipment, without dead people.

Now the question becomes: If I buy / research / manufacture modded equipment, which are cool and add a lot to the game's fun factor, will I be able to load these new saved games again?

I won't use or buy the disposable SSRL/Bazooka, since it cannot be modded to be one-shot currently. I won't use Psionic Armor since that's buggy. I won't use Taser so it cannot cause more problems.

Here is my active MODs list:

  • CULT
  • Drone
  • Retaliator
  • AlteredSounds
  • MindMissile
  • Thunder
  • Armor
  • MoriartyArmor
  • CustomGrenades
  • Sentinel
  • SniperRifle_custom
  • CombatKnife
  • GrenadeLauncher
  • AlienInventory
  • Magnum
  • SMG
  • LMG
  • RailGun
  • LukesextraUFOs
  • HWP
  • EMace
  • FirestormRestyle

Update:  I re-bought some MODded weapons. Hired soldiers. Did a UFO mission and coming out unto the Geoscape, the same CTD occured.

It seems using MODs and loading a saved game containing MODDED Weapons = CTD.

I will give it one more try: begin a new game, purchase modded weapons, finish a UFO mission, then try to save and load a game on Geoscape.

Update:

Began a new game, bought LMGs, SMGs, Sniper Rifles, Magnums and the Grenade Launcher ammo only. So far loading from Geoscape works after finishing a mission. Will try to research moddable items: incendiary grenades and the Upgraded Interceptor.

Update:

Bought Grenade Launchers, caught an UFO at the same place, after the mission saved on the Geoscape then let few minutes pass, tried to load the game = CTD.

Probably the grenade launcher is bugged?

Will try to load the earlier save and try the mission again without grenade launcher.

Update:

Grenade Launcher was already purchased, when it arrived I promptly sold it and went without this weapon to a mission.

Coming back to Geoscape, saved, then tried to load  =  CTD

Didn't research anything,  no manufacture either.

Update:

Without any mods
the game saves and loads properly.

However because the MODs are a lot of fun, I will be waiting until OpenXCOM will support MODs without them causing CTDs on loading saved games on Geoscape.

Thank You Warboy!

All saved games with MODs listed above load again perfectly. OpenXCOM is now as fun and addictive as Fallout 1/2 or Knight of the Chalice (tactical RPG akin to Champions of Krynn and Dark Sun)

The colorful, new, revolutionary AI, that is always showing new sides on every mission, especially in the Live Turns, (Quickloading the game seems to lessen the sharpness of the AI so a new "load only if half the squad is bombed to death -  ""Ironman""-mode is the preferred awesome game mode now) and  powerful new features and the promise of awesome MODs would probably make this XCOM a financial success if it went on sale on a theoretical market.
