I love the speech bubble also, you should make a Little Xcom comic script, create a Team and create a story  following there missions.

How it could look like.
Notice: shadow under arrow is "transparent" as under units. It is possible within current 8bit mode, using Yankes' shader blit.

funny how a debugging feature for developers only, now has become almost a main feature of openxcom :)  I want my simple colored floortiles back :p
