OpenXcom not finding game files

I downloaded the latest nightliy,
extracted the app image,
created a folder called OpenXcom and moved the extracted files in it,
made the UFO folder and copied the steam version in it.
I ran the executable and it still couldn't find the game. I'm pretty new to this process so please let me know if I'm just being dumb and missed a step. I'm on steam deck desktop mode with KDE plasma. Any help would be appreciated and thank you!

You don't need to extract an `.appimage`, you need to mark it as "executable" (if it has not been marked like that already) and run it directly, either via a terminal or double clicking the file in your file-manager.

If that still does not work we probably want more information (like the openxcom.log file or any messages you get when trying to run the app from a terminal).

P.s. No experience with steam deck, let alone the desktop mode, so my help can only be limited.
