Best usage for early alien alloys?
« on: September 23, 2024, 11:08:00 pm »
I got a "military shot down a ufo" mission in November 1997 and thus I have 12 alien alloys (as well as ufo navigation, ufo power source). What's the best usage for those, any suggestions? For example, I could go for 3 personal armors. Or produce some alloy ammunition.

I was lucky this run and got flying alien drones from wizkids and farmed MIB farmer mission and zerged a Lazer tank and laughed at everyone as they shot my tank with generic guns.

But I prefer TRITANIUM VESTs over personal armor, especially if you got more mannors and syndicate to clean up.

Also titanium vest with shield on a good str and melee unit is a strong early knock out unit.

I overall skip personal armor and wait till cyber armor

I personally used mine for two laser tanks and cyber armor. If you prioritise melee then Tritanium Swords or the knives / kukri might be good.

As mentioned above cyber armor is probably the best mid-game armor and worth delaying for as the requirements aren't much more than Personal Armor, I have no idea how you are supposed to reliably get Synthmuscles for the other mid-game armors outside of osiron boxes so I never got to use the Synthsuits or Assault Suits so I just kept to Cyber Armor before Flying Armor / salvaged stuff like Juggernaut

I wouldn't recommend Tritanium ammo, theres barely enough to go around prior to the invasion to make the improved lab and give everyone armor yet alone spend it on consumable ammo. Which is a shame as I remember loving the Asuka 4000 prior to turbolasers the first time I played but the harder to get Tritanium Foundry makes weapons like that impractical

Synth muscles from osiron crates are common enough now. In my current game I'm being blocked off the good stuff due to infect zombie of all things but from Osiron crates I manage to get enough muscles to create 11 suits if I so desire, before even having access to cyber armor.

I got some alloys in the very early game
- Tritanium Vest for ballistic resistance very useful against most cults
- Rocket Tank as a protection for your troops exit of the osprey, great against big units too
- I agree that later Cyber Armor is great and has my preference over Personal Armor if resource is limited

I also like early aqua plastics
- Aqua Plastic suit is immune to gas damage and great at cutting resistance like them in Black Lotus missions and sewers missions
- A Coelecanth is a decent HWP even on ground missions

Thanks for the pointer to cyber armor. However, I didn't encounter any Cyberweb people yet, meaning that the armor is not exactly close research-wise (if I got the wiki entry right). I guess I will go for personal tritanium vests then, which I already researched.

It depends on exactly where you are in terms of enemies. However, if you can, the Heavy Tritanium Suit costs a bit more alloy, but essentially makes your agent like Robocop against conventional and laser weapons. Nothing gets past it -- not gunfire, not explosives, not the dreaded gas grenade.

I would also save just enough for a single tank (Laser is best, but if you don't have it, rocket works well too). It is super good against Ghost missions, which will be popping up.
