how to get the more fun?
« on: January 23, 2024, 12:40:52 pm »
Great mod guys. I was wandering how to get the more fun from playing?
1) For example, Scorpion Hunt mission is a chore. That's if player's soldiers are kinda invincible becouse of save scumming. But once a player makes a promise to himself not to save scum It becomes kinda trilling expireince.
2) There is an in-game advice "Under the skirt" not to read weapon analysis too much but to "try it in battle". But there is so much pistols ^.^ . I wonder does anybody resist the temptation ?

Any tips?

The game was written with the intention of the player not knowing the tech tree.

Here's my favourite:

Quote
"By clicking the middle mouse button on a research topic, you bring out the tech tree viewer. It can be also called forth from the planet view by pressing 'Q', like for any search. It lets you see the whole tech tree, nothing is hidden. This kind of omniscience, of course, is out of character and will rob you of the sense of discovery.
To truly experience an approximation how scientific progress looks to most people, never use it.
To experience it in a way how it feels for a Gnome, use it only sparingly."

Sidenote: to avoid excessive exploitation maybe disable as oxce gui option and make it enable only hand editing the .cfg file?

The original game probably was written in that way. There was not much of a tech tree to speak of.
But XPiratez? Even if you have access to tech tree and wiki it is still very hard to figure out the intended research path. And if you are not following that path a sizable portion of items, weapons and crafts will be skipped. This is far more worse then losing sense of discovery.

So what? X-Piratez were written with blind playing in mind, as publicly stated by the author. Play it however you like, though.
