I would start with analysing other mods and copying them.

What exactly are you trying to do, by the way? We can show you the ropes.

I want to make two things: a mod that allows you to breed domesticated strange creatures (rats, gilldogs and hellhounds).

And another one that would allow you to have a sort of "blood donation" system for the more intelligent zombies (vampires, ghouls and mummies) since they seem to be able to be reasoned with.

It's using buckshot ammo and works like any goddamn firearm.

But ain't saw-offs a double barrel with it's barrel cut in half or less?

No I can't, this is not a weapon attribute, it's an armour or soldier type attribute.

Oh.
But what about the blaster launcher? It has the "launch" button.

Alright, here's how-
1. Make the mod
2. put the folder with the rulesets in another folder
3. Add metadata.yml to the same folder hierarchy as the ruleset folder.
4. Configure metadata .yml to something similar to my attached metadata.yml.


P.S. obviously based on the description this mod is intended for both xcomfiles and xpiratez. To do that, you need to change the x-com-files inside to a *.

But how would I work around the rule sets?
This would be my first mod...

You could try this: change the master in the stat strings metadata.yml file from xcom1 to x-com-files-see attached. Note I have only tested this briefly and can't be sure if there would be any problems down the line, but IMO there shouldn't be.

What if I want to monitor sanity?

I had this idea for a XCF submod, actually more like a few features, but I don't know how I would do them, could someone help me? It would involve a few recipes and techs.

 Hello, I don't know who keeps Xcom Utils, but I thought this might be the place to talk about it, since I didn't find it anywhere on the folders.
 So, I am playing Xcom Files, but the statstrings mod doesn't seem to work with it, I think because "sanity" was added. So could anyone help me out on how to make a fix for that? I know there is a way to solve it. Maybe even by making the original mod "platform" agnostic?
 Anyway, thanks for the help in advance.

It does to me - FIRING, THROW and MELEE, on the upper-rightish.

Oh. That I have on, but statstrings is overall better, specially when I am getting ready for a mission.

Just turn on the option show stats in inventory in the advanced options. It gives you firing accuracy and throwing accuracy. If you want other stats, they're only one click away...

It doesn't show any more. That's the problem.
I think the adding of sanity broke compatibility.

 Yes, But for all the special abilities of the weapons, this including the chainsaw's one and the pickaxe's one.
 Also, the chainsaw doesn't seem to hit on diagonals and wasn't able to hit once one of those large hollow upright logs.

Also, you should fix a post saying there's a git repo of this so users can use it (and even contribute!) to update and so on.
Even explaining the basics of git so new users can know how to use it themselves.

Have you seen a tooltip with a scrollbar in any game or application? I can't think of any. It probably exists, but maybe in 1 app out of 10000.

And regardless of that, the point in this specific case is to display information that doesn't fit on screen... if it doesn't fit on tooltip either, then it's not any better. Then we can just add a scrollbar on the main article without needing a tooltip.

I think adding an automatic scrollbar (i.e.: the scrollbar truncates and is generated automatically) or a paging system for ufopaedia entries would be good. Specially since XCF does have multiple pages for the same weapon just because the ammo descriptions didn't fit the first article.

Give it that button at the top, like the track dog ability, and maybe change how it works so it target what is in front of the soldier?
