Well graphics-wise tanks already have separate sprites for chassis and gun.
Indeed. Makes me think the idea of separate Turrets from HWPs is older than X-Com: Apocalypse. Just sayin' ;)


Do you have the Tank sprites for these done? I would love to add these to my collection :P
I haven't really made the sprites yet. Is there like a sprite repository or a place I can get them? I remember I had a software to extract them myself but It's been years since I last had it and I can't even remember the name or where I found it.

I have other sprites for your collection, though.
I'll post them in another suggestion thread. It's one of those ideas I'd love to see but I could never do it myself. Unless OpenXcom is easy to mod, that is. :P

Hello. I'm Eduardo and I hail from Chile.

X-Com has remained my fav game for almost 10 years now. I'm a certified slacker, sometimes working to make enough money and go abroad to live the life away from home for 6 months or a year.

I have limited knowledge about modding in general, from scripting to editing sound files and sprites. I have more fun modding games than actually playing them but X-Com is pretty much one of the few games I can't really mod. :'(

Glad I found this project when I was looking for mods to make my X-Com more interesting and challenging.

Well, I kinda like the idea of having HWPs and their Turrets separated items... maybe as a Mod for Vanilla OpenXcom. That way we eliminate the need to buy new HWPs just for the different weapons. There are also new Chassis ideas I'd like to suggest just to have more late game options.


Tracked Chassis
Strong damage resistance



Enhanced Tracked Chassis
Strongest damage resistance



Walker Chassis
Stronger damage resistance / Increased TUs



Hover Chassis
Stronger damage resistance / Can Hover / Produces a small explosion when destroyed



This would mean some of the stats would depend on the weapon used. Also, the Turrets Rocket Launcher and Fusion Ball Launcher should have 0 points in Reaction. I'm thinking about adding more Chassis and Turret ideas.

Hmm... well, for the civilians defending themselves idea.

Maybe make police officers be sometimes present in terror missions. Making them use a modified version of X-Com basic soldier sprites. Maybe just a different color and a police hat to make them less of a copy paste edit in graphics. :P

My X-Com has the extender mod and the distance-dependent accuracy is in it. I like that new feature mainly because it makes sense. You can actually have hard to hit roof snipers and makes Auto Shot kills a lot more harder to pull off at distance. It adds gameplay challenge and a more tactical approach in choosing weapons for your Squad.

I agree with this idea. A good way to avoid those boring and easy missions. I would never use it for like Base Assault missions, for instance.

My modded X-Com has this feature in it. In addition to make it possible to launch aircraft with less than 100% fuel, it also features a dialog box that lets you know when aircraft is ready after refuel/rearm/repairs. It also shows in which base.

To have the above feature will indeed change the way you play in geoscape but it does make sense too.

Well, I would like TFTD to continue soon after I finish XCom. So I partially agree with the idea of having both into one game.
