Suggestions / Battlescape Request : Who Died?

I lot of people die in XCOM, and one thing APOC did, which the previous two don't is give you an "event history", listing who's been killed etc.

It would be nice to have some sort of non-blocking (doesn't pause the game waiting a click) alert to name the dead soldier, or maybe just on the review screen at the end of the mission.

Suggestions / Fog Of War Options

One thing that they changed in Starcraft 2, which I liked, was the the Fog Of War wasn't literally just a black hole, it was just greyed out and all units are hidden.

I was wondering if maybe we could add an option like this into OpenXCOM, because let's face it, if you've just flown over the area to land, you have a kind of idea what's around.

Maybe three options if possible:
1 - Normal XCOM, all black until discovered
2 - The entire map is shown, but areas outside LOS are greyed out. Also consider re-greying after vision of the area is lost?
3 - Outdoors "greyed out" (or even just coloured normally), and indoors black/undiscovered

What does anyone think?

Open Feedback / Promo Stream

Hi all,

 I believe once Cydonia goes into OXC then we should have a working, playable game. So I'm thinking once this is the case, I might live stream a playthrough, and invite you all to come watch, and get units named after you, and various other gimmicks.

 I'm pretty bad at the game, and I'd have to try and set a fixed time to do it, but I think it'd be interesting, and give OpenXCOM some visibility.

 What does everyone think?

I'm intending to add network support, so linking several PCs up, each with up to 8 local players should make for some interesting games.

Programming / Implementing New Graphics?

How do we want to approach adding graphics to the game? One of the suggestions was to allow TU reservation for kneeling. There isn't such a button within UFO:EU for that. I also want to add XCOM:Apoc style "aggressiveness" options, which dictate more a fight or flight response on aliens.

Would I need to create a PCK (or whatever the graphics pack is) or should I just create a BMP file or something? or should I just try a different method (use a normal "button" and apply text instead of icons)?

Programming / Inheriting in OpenXcom

SupSuper has not merged my pull, something about how I should be overloading similar states. So I modified the code, as you can see here, but it doesn't work. It still always runs the base class code. I've done overriding and abstract classes before, and I can't see anything I've done wrong. Anyone got any ideas?

Programming / Adding the Snakemen?

So, the ruleset seems to look a little different from when I was last fiddling with it. Can somebody tell me how to set up snakemen as a race I can select in the New Battle (and full game), and so I can link up to my drawing routine?

Programming / Soldier Reordering

I thought this had been done, but wasn't when I had a look, so I've added it in to my pull request.

One thing I wasn't expecting was that if the user clicks an arrow button on a row, the row click event still fires. I just used MouseX * ScaleX to exclude the area where the buttons were. Hope this was okay?

Suggestions / Options and Savegame Location

I tend not to use my Windows profile folder (My Documents, My Photos etc.), and keep my data on other drives. That way, if I need a system reinstall, I can format C: without worrying about anything.

So, could we make it an option to store options and saves locally with the game or in the profile?

Offtopic / Game development in need of help

In my quest to actually get myself coding again, I'm thinking of building an XCOM-type game, but more akin to The Two Sides. So designed for something like 1 to 6 players.

It'll have a geoscape, and a basescape similar to XCOM, where you build bases, research tech, find and destroy your opponents. Though I was thinking of something different for combat, though I'm not sure what yet.
I was also thinking of having seperate "continents" that each sell different tech (with some overlap) and at different prices, with different delivery times based upon distance to the base etc.

I don't mind "shrinking" the game if it starts to look too large

On a tech level, I'm planning this as a 3D game (I've started coding in C++ using Irrlicht, and have an early basis for the Geoscape. I'll get a YouTube vid up when I get home). However, I'm quite new to 3D programming, and my network coding isn't great, so I'm quite open to some changes.

There's not really much set in concrete yet, but if anybody is interested in helping on any aspect of the game, feel free to reply or PM me.

What does everybody think about this from what they've seen so far?

Personally, I think it looks awful! What's with all this black goo? Looks just like X-Files or Spiderman 3! Where are the sectoids, aquatoids or anthropods? Unless they're going down the Micronoid route (https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=Micronoid_Aggregate_%28Apocalypse%29)
