Work In Progress / Re: How does facility "defence value" work?
« on: July 08, 2016, 06:32:26 pm »
So a Fusion Defences will deal 600-1800 damage to the battleship? It seems to deal a lot less than that, as the battleship has only 3000 hit points but it takes a lot more than 3 Fusion Defences to take one down.

That's why it's recommended to have 3 + Grav Shield - allows 5 minimum damage rolls + a miss.

X-COM/Rainbow Six hybrid? I can't believe nobody ever did that.

Plan ops, then execute on fps with soldiers.

That what the X-COM Alliance was supposed to be.  Well, that's what the articles at the time had said.

As a user I get an HTTP timeout when trying to open any page on the mod portal 4 out of every 5 tries.  I've pretty much given up and just use the forum search instead.

edited for the great forum scavenger hunt of 2019

Awesome run Coop - I need to try this one of these days.

What always bothered me about the 9 minute run was that he does one landed UFO in February with a score of 142 and ends the month with a score of 293 with no research done.

That's pretty damn impressive - I always lose more on my first terror mission than you did the entire campaign!

Yes, it's now a configurable option per research topic.

Released Mods / Re: [GRAPHICS] Cooper's Smoke
« on: July 01, 2016, 11:06:08 pm »
I've been getting my mods setup for TFTD and all you have to do is change the master in metadata.yml to "*" instead of "xcom1" - otherwise it works perfectly.

^^ Not exactly correct - there's another smoke sprite used for above ground missions and a slight change to the ruleset - I fixed the palette on the above ground smoke to not be green but I think the green works underwater - makes it look silty, despite the fact that it's supposed to be dye.  Otherwise if you want a gray underwater smoke you'd need to make a separate mod.

Updated Mod attached.

To my knowledge there shouldn't be a /mods folder there but if it works, it works. Have fun :)

If you put the mods folder in your install folder, it won't use your documents folder which is preferable for some people.

I've read there are modded incendiary weapons that are pretty good, but in the vanilla game does anyone even bother with the incendiary weapons? They're pretty useless aren't they? I used the rockets once in awhile to light up a large area, but that's about it.

If you're unlucky enough to, say face a sectoid base defense in January, the incendiary autocannon can take out a cyberdisc in a single auto-fire volley if you're a little lucky.  - Almost guaranteed to take it out in two - and it doesn't explode if killed via fire.

Programming / Re: Alien Psi Bug / Psi Question
« on: June 17, 2016, 06:13:10 am »
So again, I was under the impression that alien MC should behave like it does at turn 20 from the start (once they spot one soldier, they can MC everyone even though they haven't seen them). Was I misunderstanding how alien psi functions, or could this discrepancy be related to the recent alien psi bug that was reported?

I don't think the "spot one spot all" rule ever applied - from my tests they can PSI attack under two conditions:

1. They spot you or on of their mind controlled soldiers spot you.
2.  One of your soldiers makes a successful attack even if they attack from well outside visual range.

I think it's rule #2 that throws lots of people off and gives the feeling of omniescence.
