Open Feedback / Re: Why so Hard?
« on: February 24, 2016, 06:46:38 pm »
Obviously, the most effective method is to pray for Floaters, but like everybody else has said repeatedly: It is both acceptable and common to abort the first terror mission. In January, you're outgunned enough against small UFOs, MOUT against heavily-armed foes while you have airsoft guns and pajamas is unlikely to work.

Large Rockets rip Cyberdiscs to shreds, operate them in teams. The launcher operator himself, and a guy carrying extra ammo. It helps to aim for terrain near the target; it's much easier to hit that way, though the splash damage may hurt slightly less than a direct hit.

Suggestions / Re: Play as the Alien Menace

It occurs to me that this is possible, at least to some extent, through modding. You still get stuck with UFO:TTS' staging area approach, no off-world operations for you, but this can be done. And, unfortunately, you can't get your UFOs intercepted. Yet.

Incidentally, has the dust ever settled over TTS? I know it died, but I'm not entirely clear on the details.

Possibly, but I have no clue. If you can get at the logcat, it might help.

I've checked the sprite again, looks clean. If you're referring to the area inside the crook of the right wing, that had prompted me to take a look anyway, but that would appear to be the markings on the pad.

What about more environmental interaction, like rappelling kits, falling damage and jumping?

Got two crashes yesterday. Does this port have crashlogs? Want to send them your way if it does.
Of course, it may have glitched because of FMP instead, but that's what the log is for.

Also, any idea why the game restarts from the loading screen if I change programs?

openxcom.log is present here, where your saves go IIRC.
Restarting from the loading screen is a quirk of Android. Some devices are pretty bad at multitasking so they'll kill apps that don't have active focus at the moment.

Released Mods / [CRAFT] Pyro-GX
« on: January 30, 2016, 11:55:59 am »
"Some fighter jocks worship their hardware, but I'm not the religious type..."

This mod adds Descent's Pyro-GX fighter, researchable after the Firestorm. I won't even pretend this thing is well-balanced, but that's to be expected - the Pyro is 2132 tech, after all, it should be wiping the floor with everything.

Except the Avenger. I couldn't dethrone that one, it just didn't seem right.

All resources in this mod (save the UFOpaedia image, which comes from, well, Descent) are original material. Feel free to use them if you like, but credit would be nice if you do.

Special Thanks to:

For pointing out the obvious, which is assistance I desperately need on a regular basis.  :V

For sharing some of that graphics wisdom to help get the UFOpaedia working

Work In Progress / Converting pictures to the appropriate palette
« on: January 30, 2016, 06:07:23 am »
I'd like a little bit of help here, because I'm at a loss. I'm trying to get a picture converted to the appropriate palette for the UFOpaedia, but just loading the palette into it makes it look completely screwed because the original palette for it borders on complete insanity.

I really, really hope I can get it working without having to fix it all by hand, could somebody help me out?  :-[

I don't know, if it's some sort of problem in combination with other mods, but when I stand on top of a floater corpse, it shows the text of a floater corpse in the inventory, but the picture of a damaged specter suit.

'Twas an issue with the numbering, as Solarius Scorch described. Corrected and posted the updated version in the top post. Thanks for catching that.

Work In Progress / Borkforms!
« on: November 23, 2015, 02:12:19 am »
Sometimes people fail in a hilarious fashion. In this case, I went in with a very limited understanding of how unit sprites work.

Gentlemen, I present the Borkform. And I included the mod so you can see the abomination in motion. Just install the mod, start a new game, hire a Vatform, send him to a mission, and watch as he flails about.

I found this sufficiently amusing that I even screwed up the paperdoll to match  :P

Work In Progress / Re: A Small Colouring Question

I might have worded it poorly, sorry  :-\  I was asking how I could recolour pixels of the same colour, without changing the palette. Sorry ^^;

Work In Progress / A Small Colouring Question
« on: November 22, 2015, 01:13:50 am »
Does anybody know how I can replace colours of the same value with one colour in mtPaint? Basically a palette swap but within the same palette?

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

The floorob file is missing Background transparency.
Attached corrected FloorOb :>
And updated OP, thanks :>

I was wondering, now that I read the description text of the ufopaedia-entry: Is there any armour out there (=mod), that actually does honor its pledge, to support movement on the battle field? I mean, this one tells: »Advanced sensor arrays and motors allow the wearer to be much more effective on the field.«

And indeed it does, judging from the ruleset. It should add TUs, firing accuracy and reactions. If it doesn't there's a problem o.O"

Hmmmm... I just might add this as an alien to Redux, if that's OK with you.

Sure, go ahead  :)

Welcome to the club. Once your wildest fantasies grow beyond the huge moddability of armor stats/bonuses provided by OXC, try OXCE :P

Yeah, that would go nowhere considering how long it took me to get a single item working :p
