Offtopic / Freeablo - open source diablo 1 engine
« on: April 23, 2014, 08:55:51 am »
Hello,

Looks like we have some new interesting project in foss engine family.

Author post on reddit:

Hi all. So I've been working on a game engine for playing Diablo 1 using the original data files (like OpenMW for Morrowind). I managed to get it allowed as my final year project for college, which is now over, so I am looking for people to contribute. It is pretty incomplete at this point, but you can walk around town and go through some random dungeons. Here's a screenshot of it running at 2560x1440: https://wheybags.netsoc.ie/freeablo.png Source is over at https://github.com/wheybags/freeablo , and you can download a compiled copy at https://github.com/wheybags/freeablo/releases

Please note: you need to have the original data files to play it, and no copyrighted material is being distributed.

Open Feedback / Openxcom git builder updated
« on: August 17, 2013, 09:20:51 am »
I've updated whole cross compiler environment (in preparations yaml-cpp 0.5.0). Also, thanks to this, some libraries were updated (sdl, sdl_image, sdl_mixer, sdl_gfx).

So, starting from next build, everything may be broken :)

Tools / Tool Idea - Mod manager / Launcher
« on: July 11, 2013, 10:17:59 pm »
Hello,

Long time ago we've talked on irc about some utility which could browse, download, install, enable / disable mods. It could be done as some kind of openxcom launcher.

Of course it would need some online mod repository / server too.

I'm writing that idea here in case someone is bored and would like to code smth for openxcom ;)

Open Feedback / Next version number (0.5)
« on: December 07, 2012, 04:01:48 pm »
I think that next version shouldn't be numbered 0.5 as it will be finishable game, with all gameplay feature implemented. 0.5 would give false impression, that there are lot of things still to implement.

I'm thinking it should be numbered 0.9, so there still will be place to fix bugs and implement some forgotten functionality (in case that happened) before 1.0.

Open Feedback / What's left to implement finishable game?
« on: November 27, 2012, 10:50:02 am »
Thanks to Warboy's super crazy coding speed lot of things has been implemented recently :D

I wonder, what's left to implement finishable game - so we can fight cydonia mission. I guess biggest thing left is AI geoscape?

Btw, maybe it would be good to update feature list:

Offtopic / Spellcross - TBS from 90s
« on: November 18, 2012, 09:22:06 am »
I'm writing about that game because probably you haven't heard about it.

I've played it a bit long time ago. It reminded me a bit xcom.

Quoting wikipedia:
Quote
Spellcross: The Last Battle (Spellcross: Ostatnia bitwa in Polish; Spellcross: Poslední bitva in Czech) is a turn-based DOS strategy game for the PC, developed by a slovak company Cauldron HQ and published by SCi in 1997/1998. For a variety of reasons (notably, a relatively nonexistent marketing budget and the emergence of games dominated by the demands of 3D-graphics cards), unfortunately for its designers, the game had little mass appeal, sold poorly, and has remained obscure.

In Spellcross, a contemporary Earth military fights for survival against an extradimensional invasion of orcs, undead, harpies and other fantastical creatures.

Suggestions / Soldier voices
« on: October 18, 2012, 12:32:13 pm »
Comment for luke83 radio auditions ;)

Nice to see that you can do impersonations too.

So, what about adding soldier voices to openxcom? Shouldn't be hard to implement, i think? Start with some simple texts:

"Aliens spotted", "Fucker killed", "He shoot me!" etc

Open Feedback / Youtube videos

People in comments are suggesting more youtube videos. I too think it's good idea to have videos showing new features.

It would be great if someone could make video in such style (with commentary):
