use mouse wheel is faster than any button  that button might end up being replaced cause i doubt anyone is using it. is not even that useful. is there to make the buttons be equal

Its there because back in the day the scroll weel mice were not invented yet and you needed something to push to look above :)

Plus the amiga nuts (like me) had only 2 button mice, that admitedely were immortal.

I am not sold. It just a cash sink and we know cash is a problem that can be solved 2-3 months into the game.

Also in regards to space, that problem doesnt even exist. The only cramped bases I am having is the starting one (assuming no mods enabled) and thats it. Every other base once it is designed defensibly it has enough space to cram in whatever extra one needs, two or even three power generators are not going to be a hassle.

Its not going to pose a hazzard either in defense missions because you would place them away from the access lifts and hangars.

In 2012 the only purpose they served was to delay your sattelite coverage and as every gimmic in that game it was absolutely not nessessary if the game was designed as it should.

I missed the invisible Lobster Men. "Invisible and virtually invulnerable" that sounds like a plan for an alien..! Maybe invisible comes from hiding in closets? ;)

I am pretty sure it was meant to be invinsible as in indistructible.

What I found hilarius in this was their pricing policy: "Second the title is really more of the same and other than graphics changes there is little justifying the price above that of Enemy unknown"

Tell about some honesty here :D

EDIT: Awwwww. The porting referencing Amiga, just brought a tear in my eye  :'(

EDIT2: And those References to Dune2, C&C and The Dig....Half my childhood is in there...

Sadly, destroying those battleships doesn't stop the negotiations. Once they appear in the sky, the country is already dead.

Yeah, it gives a false hope that you can prevent the landing and therefore the mission the country is saved, which isnt true...

At least you get a score boost from all these downnings.

The countries who defect follow a certain logic: first a region (Europe, Southern America, etc.) that has Alien Infiltration assigned as a possible mission is randomly selected for the mission. Afterwards the first country who defects is the one at the top of the list of countries of that region who is still in the country. So some countries (US, UK, China, Nigeria) will always fall first than others.

This is how it works on the original game, I can't remember though if on OXC the selection is still made from the first country who is still in the Council or if it is randomly selected from all countries of the region still in the Council.

Erhm...Ok Ill repeat it again: Its neither about money or how the game works. I know how it works. I Just want to know what the experiences have been, not to reach any conclusions....

Actually that's one of the points we should look into deeper. Because if the said region which is chosen only has one country, you will only loose it and aliens are all over the place (e.g. Region South Africa).

It would be better if the Aliens would try to infiltrate all countries in the region and then stop the mission and put it at the end of the list of regions or in a list of already infiltrated ones. To get the country back or better free the people X-Com would have to attack first the alien base there and eliminate it and second do a couple of special missions in the defected country to eliminate aliens undercover and "convince" government officials (probably at gun point) to withdraw from the agreement with the aliens and stay neutral. Maybe a miniatur Version of the Alien Brain is set up beneth the goverment parlament and the people there get mind controlled or something like it.
That would be a cool idea!

Meh, as far as I understand its not mind control or total enslavement. Its a one sided pact. The humans 'think' they will get a good bargain while in reality the get the short end of the stick.

Also IMHO the defection should be permanent (as is), but there has to be some short of prevension for example eliminating the UFO wave that goes to do it (and they are a lot, I shot down 7-8 in my current play through and still lost Canada somehow) should postpone the mission for at least an amount of time.

I really hope too, it wont be a zerg rush. Everytime I see a game like this I remember this entry from that ancient awesome lets play featuring Otton Von Xander:

"The recorded voice-journal of Heinrich von Paxicon, Stunproder 1st Class

Mood: Scheisse.

I vaz issued mein waffen today. It is ein stick. I asked herr Kommendant "Can't I get ein gun..?" but apparently zé fakt that I interned at the Düsseldorf Zoo back in '91 means I am the only one qualified to, unt I quote zhat amerikan pig here, "Subdue and kapture" these.. Zektoids. Armed with lasers. Unt plasma. Unt giant spaceships. And probably zixteen-boobed monster women with carapaces.

And me with mein stick.

If I survive my first mission, I schwear I will pee in his office. Rite in zhat little potted plant by his desk."

Signing owt.

EDIT: Do we need to post on youtube to sign in or we can do from here too? If we can from here you can use me too:

The damn tablet/smarphone and the timers kill it for me. It makes the game too anxiety inducing for me.

you make more moneys from selling stuff though

Its not a matter of money. I just want a compilation to see if other players experience specific countries defecting to their playthroughs.

Suggestions / Re: Soldiers to recruit.... elite....
« on: March 11, 2015, 12:39:37 pm »
This has always been my opinion.  I mean, I'm the leader of a (somewhat) prioritized multi-national defense force.  Are you telling me I can't even see the soldiers I can get before they arrive?  I'd expect to at least be able to see a list of potential candidates before I decide who I recruit, and not just settle for whatever dregs the governments scrape off the bottom of the barrel (even if it IS the very nicest of barrels).  Then I can pick who I need based on priority.  Maybe increase the range of both caps, so if I want that guy who can thread a needle with a bullet, I have to accept the fact that his target can run a marathon before the shot ever comes. My thought was more to have a set number of candidates each month, and the next month replace them with new applicants, or maybe just fill in the gaps.  If you use all up your wannabes before then, then you DO have to accept whatever random guys (and gals) the feds can conscript to your cause.  Although I do like the idea of adding one (or some) more each day.  Either way works, really.

Oh, and as for the "Stats improve more when they're lower or not" debate, you have to be more specific.  Primaries (accuracy, reactions) don't, but your secondaries DO improve faster at lower levels (statistically speaking, of course).

I remember that at a time, there was a reoccuring joke among the player base, that X-COM was not intentionally created to succeed. That it was actually funded just to give the impression that it did something and nobody of the funding nations actually expected any results. One guy had suggested that the ground troop equiment contractor was the one offering the less costs and less quality (hence why a rifle would sometimes shoot in complete illogical angles and miss terribly) and that the soldiers were drop outs, or psichopaths.

The project isn't that far advanced yet.  Warboy has done alot of work on the battlescape.  There is still work to be done in the Geoscape.  They aren't at a place yet where they are able to consider releasing any alphas etc.  Much of the capabilities are making their way into the Nightlies though, so that is a good place to start, if you are interested.

Ok. I cant tell you how much excited I am now. Not only I found a way to play the old ufo in an improved version, I am getting possitive singlas for TFTD and Apoc too. This is like a Christmass present.

I'm pretty sure you don't get more than the corpses and guns/ammo/grenades of the aliens you killed on a base defence either. I don't remember getting the Alien Alloys or Elerium that a battleship would represent, let alone all the Alien Entertainment and other flavour stuff.

Elerium (in the original) you were getting for sure. It was bugged, not only you got but it was in the thousands (4-5 i think).

Me thinks ill finish it as it is now. At least I edited the file as Arthanor suggested and I finally got them to function. No problems so far, a bunch of engineers I ordered arrived no problems. Just that Canada followed the U.S.A. and defected to the alliens, even after I shot down 3 scouts, one abductor and 2 battleships on the same filight.... I wonder what managed to land and I didnt see it....oh well...at least those are gameplay problems.

Thanks again for the responces, and to the dev team and moders. The game has become THAT MUCH awesomer.
