Open Feedback / Re: Sleeping on a tire heap

If I remember it correctly it is not damage but it stuns them. Could be wrong I havent played for a long time.

Though (no insult meant here) I dont recognise the so called 'intellectualls) of the last 3-4 centuries as such there is a quote of Benjamin Franklin: “Those who surrender freedom for security will not have, nor do they deserve, either one.” Its not spot on but it is sort of an anwer to the questions you pose.

Personally I have lived "the tunnel rats life" philosophy for around 4-5 years in a sense and I can tell that it is better not to do it. Any alternative is better but thats just me. Your mileage may vary as they say.

Again, it's a game, player agency is important, and disrespecting player agency as this does is pretty much a leading hallmark of bad design; it's not childish to take objection to a punishing mechanic that totally discards your ability to do anything about it. You can't even stop the aliens from distributing their agents/infiltrators, the precursor to pact signing, in the first place.

If the motive behind this shitty mechanic was to guarantee inevitable failure, assuming such a motive exists, this was a terrible way of doing it, and there are better alternatives.

I dont know weather that is fixed or not but the Russians never bail out therefore you can continue indefinently as long as you can manage scraping cash. Also in theory one of the fail scenarios is indeed this. Theoritically X-Com cant continue the fight indefinetly either and the world is slipping in mass hysteria by the hour so...
I agree with the resty of your post that it indeed is counter intuitive as a mechanic though.

Never heard that, but if true, it debunks the idea that inevitable failure is intended as a deliberate design goal, and that infiltration is supposed to put the player on a clock as seems to be believed by many, and which was never actually confirmed.

It was not done on purpose I think, it was a bug resulting on how the map was divisioned into zones and has something to do with the overlapping of Russia/Siberia/Europe.

Game of thrones is fancy mix of the Western Roman empires most degrading aspects turned into a middle ages context and slapped in with that middle ages mentality to boot. Add in high fantasy. That said, history is full of moments like that (particularly in Europe) sans the fantasy elements (dragons and stuff). People are familiar with this already and its not that most of the things happening in there are not happening in real life either. So its easier to not be repulsed.

In regards to the metro series, I wouldnt call it "fantasizing" about becoming tunnel rats. Presenting a dystopian world usually is a means to raise questions about the morality of those living in the current world (ours or the writters time frame) the steps that led to the presented world and ultimately usually acts as a warning.
I doubt anyone would like to live inside a shit hole of his own voilition.

Yeh Neptunes is right, even the conventional gauss tech is crap. You wont be having a real fighting chance before you stack up sonic cannons and decent melee weapons.

I agree that the mechanic is not the best out there, especially when you have the equipment to shoot down 3 battleships and their attended escorts. That said turning on and off the funding of a counsil member doesnt sound legit either. It can lead into schizophrenic occurances the like of: January the US abandons X-Com. March US rejoins the X-COM. Add infinitum.

The entire research tree is so convulted that you might get something that is killer extremely fast and be on paper armor and vice versa. In my main run I had developed every weapon and armor available except xcom lasers and whatever deviates from that research. All that because I hadnt interogated the right person. Moreover you are a slave to whatever spawns, the sacrifices you make to get them and ultimetely your luck.

So to put it into context: There is no set in stone what you will have in two years time.

Sorry, I posted the wrong save. I'll try to replicate the scenario I had.

Here, a gal can been seen by and be shot by a trader guard guy. However, there's quite a few tiles of apparently solid smoke between him and her.

The question is: Has anyone of them seen her prior to the smoke screen?

^That and I think somebody said once, that the AI is aware of your position for 2-3 turns after spotting you.

I don't know Latin and that's how Lovecraft named such books... It was meant to be researchable but I have no idea yet what exactly to do with it (probably has something to do with the Dark Ones?) - I don't want to waste it for a mere easter egg, I want something cool. Any good, or at least awesome, ideas would be appreciated :)

You can use it to flesh out the lore of the Deep Ones. After all they are the Cthulite faction. Perhaps an insight as to what happened to Tleth and why the buggers regressed to the point of using axes?
