There was a discussion about 2 stage base defense and the idea was to switch: first stage would still be the original mission, with second stage being the assault on the Battleship that brought the aliens.

Going on that vein, what about having two stages?  Starting in the indoor stage then during stage two chasing the surviviours back to the ship to finish them off?

I approve of this... I really do.  This must happen!  I break stuff all the time on my install, so I'd be happy to help test this if and when you do get it working.

idk, maybe it would stick around.  if the crew is so large, it would have to hang around because it's only got two unloading gates and they only have so many TUs per turn... so the base would have be a whopping seven layers high if you do that.

I think it's a really cool idea and I'd love to see where it goes... I don't really have any "help" to offer though... I'm more skilled w/ making weapons than I am w/ making tiles, lol.

What about having a surface level complete w/ a very large to explore?  There'd a BUTTLOAD of aliens, you'd have to boost the size landing parties by like 50% at least imo if you do that.

I think it's awesome that you guys want to help out by making sprites for me, but I don't really like the design choices that have been presented so far.  There's elements in both weapons I like but there's more elements I dislike.  I know I could mix-and-match on my own in my art program, but I really like seeing what you guys come up with.

I'm NOT refusing your help, I'm encouraging you to keep working on your ideas.  It's kind of I'm a military company and you guys are outside contractors assigned to deal with a problem you've been presented with, lol.

OMG!  That looks so amazing!  Thank you so much!  When I post the next update for my mod I'll be sure to include it.

If you (or anyone else) were wondering what I was trying to "emulate" for the new autocannon, I used the beam gatling gun from Gundam Unicorn.  *bit of a weeb*

Fortunately I am very experienced in working within a palette, what with originating from the doom community and all.Haha, yeah I've kind of grown into the habit of pushing the boundaries of how stupidly detailed a small sprite can be.


Here's a slightly nerfed, polished and paletted version.

That looks better for sure.  I'll play with a little bit in game and see how I feel about it.  In the mean time, how'd you like to help me on some of my other projects that involve spriting?  I've been looking for a decent artist.

EDIT:  I just tried it in game... you need to use the correct colour pallet otherwise you get the "pallet" bug where colours get randomly assigned to it.  I believe Solarius linked the correct pallet in his post.

I haven't really introduced myself around here yet, so I might as well.

I'm chaosshade, X-Com veteran of 21 years... wow it's been a long time... anyway, I hated 2012 because it axed too many things I loved about X-Com and OXC was a breath of fresh air!  Steam's DOSBox version is okay... but OXC really shines.  I love the fact that it's the original game but virtually all the bugs are fixed now!  I can't wait for TFTD ^^

I've been modding on and off for a few months now and I'm pretty comfortable with YAML and adding new stuff.  I've had some successes and some dismal failures, but I'll get the hang of it.  I'm not a great spriter so making new Battlescape itesm becomes very time-consuming for me, but I'll get the hang of it eventually... or I can beg someone in the community *laughs*
