Didn't they release server binaries/sources?
Of course! I even compiled them yesterday myself. With two results: The server seems to be running just fine (as far as I can see, when just connecting to it, so I immediately put it on my personal gaming-server-machine for further use...  ;D).

But the client is different matter. It does compile, but it does not run. I've already written into a thread concearning a smiliar topic, but haven't gotten a response until now. I also tried to use the precompiled windows-binary, but that leaves me with two things: Noone else to play, as there is no public server running (except mine, when the machine is turned on for a view hours at a time, sometimes not for weeks). And with a client that only plays some sounds but by far not all. Others already complained about this problem, but as there hasn't been any update for at least 2 years.

When you look at the project-site, you will realize, that it hasn't been changed since March 2012. So from where I stand, nobody is maintaining the code any more. A look into their forums reveals, that they haven't been used in quite some time, as well. I'd love to see more going on, but considering that the client doesn't seem to run/compile properly, no public server is running, I believe, you won't find many players to play. Probably only yourself.

(Just for the sake of the idea: I'd love to put up an ufo2000-server, but not at my home, as it is the case right now. And renting an internet-server for that, is a financial question...)

That won't happen. It's not even in long long long todo plan. It simply the project of different kind.
If you want to play PvP - ufo2000 is your choice. Currently.
Well... not really any more... Have you tried to play it, recently? Even the official server seems to be down, right now.

Well, thats pretty much bugging me right now. I played the game a lot around 2005-2006, was rather good by the time. But now it really seems to be quite dead. The project-site shows a last entry from 2012. In the official forums it stopped around the same time. And when I try to compile that stuff on my Ubuntu, it doesn't work out. Hell, it doesn't even run properly on my Win 7. I hate to say it, but it seems, I lost a good part of my past with the loss of this game.

its not possible (at the moment) and yes i tried to do something like that a "grenadelauncher" that shoots flares, a "shotgun" that shoots multiple flares or flares with timelimit with the current code its not doable

I just wondered if it would be possible to create flare-guns. In standard Openxcom you just have the old electro flares. But on a real battlefield you will find, that they often use flare-guns to shed some light on the area ahead. I was thinking to a one-shot-clip, pistol like equipment item, that you use on a desired point of the map and then the bullet is flying above that point for, lets say, 5 rounds, lighting a greater area than the normal electro-flares. So you will have the benefit of a greater area to see but for a limited time, with the usual aiming disadvantage when you let a soldier with low aiming accuracy use it.

Ah, I see. Doesn't seem to take the desired effect on the menu immediately, but after finishing the mission, also the menu is zoomed back to a more readable size. Thanks a lot!

I am wondering, how you do it, to get the bigger overview of the map... I tried many settings for openxcom, but they all show me either a smaller area or size down the contents. How do you do that?
