Suggestions / Configurable deployment order for Battlescape?
« on: June 22, 2014, 01:15:02 pm »
One of the mods that XComUtil was able to make was to sort your troops by rank - the higher the rank, the further from the back of the 'sport they were.

This meant no random shot into the transport during the first turn snipes your Colonel, and your Colonel isn't the first guy off the 'sport trying to dodge plasma bolts everywhere.

I've searched and failed to find similar functionality for OpenXCom, either in the base program or as a mod. Is my google-fu lacking, or has no-one implemented this?

Ideally, I'd like an interface where I can actually set what units I want where. If I could have a few soldiers in _front_ of the tank that would be excellent. With a smoke screen a tank might not get insta-killed, and it might be worthwhile bringing one along.

Open Feedback / OpenXCom TFTD MT-32 Music Pack?
« on: June 19, 2014, 07:14:07 am »
And a new release, this time to flex the MT-32's integrated Reverb circuitry, which I absolutely adore.

This is available from the Mod Portal, just like the previous version.

VERSION 2.x RELEASES REQUIRE AN OPENXCOM BUILD WITH SDL_Mixer2. AT TIME OF WRITING THIS IS ONLY THE EXPERIMENTAL ANDROID AND iOS BUILDS.

IF YOUR BUILD DOES NOT HAVE THIS, TRACKS WITH OVERLAPPING REVERB WILL SOUND SLIGHTLY BROKEN ONCE EVERY 2 LOOPS.

I've got Max Reverb uploaded, I intend to have Enh Reverb uploaded in a day or two.

Since the Enemy Unknown MT-32 Music Pack seems about done,  I'm turning my attention to TFTD.

Has enough work been done to understand TFTDs music structure, such that I could create a music pack for it?

* Edit: Revision 2 of the OpenXCom TFTD MT-32 music pack is released! Grab it here: Dropbox

This is revision 2 of my OpenXCom TFTD MT-32 music pack.

The reference music files for TFTD do not include GMWIN and GMLOSE. This is the music for the Victory and Game Over slideshows. Should this naming convention change a new revision will be necessary.

This revision was re-cut from the original MT-32 captures to a 44.1kHz final audio rate, to address issues with 48kHz audio in OpenXCom.

---------------
Install like any other OpenXCom Music Pack:

Extract the contents into <datadirectory>/SOUND, overwriting as necessary.

In Game Options -> Audio, make the following changes:
set Music Format to OGG, or else make sure there are no other GM*.* files in the directory.
Set Audio Sample Rate to 44.1 KHz

Suggestions / Let custom .rul files live with options.cfg?
« on: June 18, 2014, 05:08:27 am »
So I've made a custom MyStatStrings.rul file, but it looks like the only place it can live is in the OpenXCom\DATA\Ruleset folder.

I'd like it to live in the same place as options.cfg, so that when I delete the OpenXCom folder (perhaps to update to a new version) my custom .rul file isn't removed. Can the config directory be added to the search list for .rul files?

UPDATE 2023-04-02
This is now completely obsolete and nobody should play OpenXCom with it ever again!

You want my new MUNT emulated CM-32L recordings -> here
------------------------------------

Hello,

I just discovered OpenXCom earlier today. I played the hell out of X-Com and TFTD back in the day, and I happened to be fortunate enough to own a Roland MT-32 when I did so.

It so happens that I still own it, and it's connected to my computer and works from within DosBOX, and I'm setup to capture it's output.

If someone a bit more familiar with the music situation with OpenXCom would like to work with me and answer a few questions, I'd be delighted to provide MT-32 captures for the music from X-Com and TFTD.

Apologies is this is the incorrect sub-forum to post this in. If I should be posting elsewhere please advise.

For those new to the thread: Revision 3 of the MT-32 music pack is currently available -
Dropbox

This release has been down-sampled to 44kHz, disregard any previous instructions about setting a 48kHz sample rate.

This is revision 3 of my OpenXCom Enemy Unknown MT-32 music pack.

Unless the developers give me a way to offset-loop music in the future, I do not expect there to be any future releases. Yes, that's what I said for revision 2.

Due to popular demand and apparent issues with 48KHz Playback in OpenXCOM that I haven't personally encountered, this release has been down-sampled to 44.1 kHz. As I no longer have the original Audacity cuts used to generate this release, this has been downsampled from the .ogg versions of revision 2.

There are three caveats:
1) Due to how it loops, the first second or so of the Interception music sounds a little lousy (reverb from just before the looping point).
2) The Cydonia briefing differs significantly from the General MIDI version of the same song, and sounds much more bare.
3) There is a police siren present during the opening sequence as played on a CM-32L or LAPC-I, that is not present on the MT-32.
