BTW, does anyone knows how to read map files? It would greatly help with sanity drain...

MCDEdit does.

Nord, I would also like to congratulate you on the release. This is such a unique and also enormous project.

I would certainly like to watch Meriian's LP of it!

The X-Com Files / Re: Willing to pay $1000 USD for alternate endings
« on: April 04, 2024, 03:09:32 pm »
Well, I am seriously considering adding multiple endings anyway (based on siding with other factions). However, it remains only a possibility due to how much time and effort would be required.

I honestly appreciate the offer, but regardless of what happens, I'm not taking commissions like this one. I'm already spending as much time on XCF as I can and want to, so it's not really a money issue. I simply don't want to devote more time to modding XCF, since for me it's a hobby and I don't want too many constraints, especially considering that I'm also somewhat involved with making content for X-Piratez.

Besides, I think such a paid commission would go a bit too far with how modding is supposed to work, especially considering that other people actively participated in making XCF for free. (Yes, I have a Patreon, but it only offers small, symbolic rewards to patrons, so IMO it's not paid content.)

Having said all that, I'm happy to know that there is demand for multiple endings. Maybe one day?

Work In Progress / Re: [WIP][MOD][OXCE] From the Apocalypse 0.25.6
« on: April 03, 2024, 01:42:03 pm »
Thanks ;D
Content-wise I'm almost done, I dare to say. I'm currently doing a playthrough to test the gameplay and fix the countless bugs.

Great news!
It's a really cool and unique project which deserves more visibility.

is xcom files version 3.3 up yet? i thought it was 3.2

Unreleased XCF versions are always available on GitHub, and usually playable. Usually.

Oh, and very last question, i was wondering, how would you translate Commander? Przywodca, Dowódca, Komandor or Komodor? :D ;)

Not sure about Dioxine, but I would go with "Komendant". :)

Holy shit its Scorch. Hi dude. Hopefully this has been an entertaining read!

Hello! Yes, it has. :3

Yeah, I am in agreeance with you here. When I started the run, and realized No Dr. X, that meant {spoilered}, that was rough.

True, but there are still other endings. Besides, X's arc is still unfinished anyway, despite being the most advanced of all non-standard endings.

Its also why for the writings I haven't mentioned her: Its funny she keeps diving bombing us with base defense in the run- but I do agree she really *Should* have no interest in us, except maybe having her car, and we got rid of that.

I don't think she does any bombing. While she's an antagonist, she wants you alive and cares about your ubers.

Its merely how to rectify getting Advanced Medicine- which without, we cannot advance the game. We'll eventually hit a roadblock and cant Graduate/High Studies (I forget which).

Hmm, I don't think that's the case. I can't really prove it without dissecting the tech tree (which I'm not eager to do because spoilers), but her arc is meant to be optional, so there are probably other ways to finish the game. After all, it's possible to
Spoiler:
lose the gravball match against her three times
, which would lock you out from the rest of her arc, but should not prevent you from finishing the campaign.

This is explained on the very first page in the "X-Com Vehicles" section.

OXCE Suggestions NEW / Re: [Suggestion]max stats for transformation
« on: March 26, 2024, 02:03:25 pm »
That would be useful - nowadays it's a common problem that veteran soldiers still have access to transformations meant for beginners, which clutters the list. Not a big deal, since you can always add +1 something to make the transformation not completely useless, but it's not ideal.

OXCE Suggestions NEW / Re: [Suggestion] Add Real-time engine
« on: March 26, 2024, 02:00:57 pm »
It was not an "unnecessary mode", it was the core of this game's design. As far as I know, it was the turn-based mode which was added as an afterthought because the creators feared stranding too far from the previous instalments. And I have to say that it shows in the gameplay; turn-based mode feels rather clunky and unbalanced, whereas real-time feels more polished and integrated.

It's fine to prefer turn-based games, but saying that real-time games are objectively worse is silly.

Its not, but im trying to play as hard by the rules of the game as possible- so others can follow the steps if they wanted to do Caturday. Its why I started in Catlifornia and planked the starting six ubers.
That being said, If its thematically interesting- there might be room to bend the rules a Little bit...

I fully understand your position. However, Dr. X's entire arc relies upon her special connection with her Uber creations. The prison is but the first step here, with later missions and stories being heavily dependent on the Escaped Lunatics' past and the Doctor's story with them. While it's easy to allow catgirls on Uber-only missions, rewriting the whole story would be a major ordeal, or else a part of the game won't make any sense. Even the Captain is supposed to be a Lunatic herself, as Dr. X treats her so; if the Captain and her crew are not ubers, Dr. X wouldn't have the motivation to pursue them in the first place.
In my opinion it would be best to just accept that this particular arc won't be explored in this campaign. There are other important allies whose arcs don't mind you being a catgirl.

Help / Re: need help with these map files.
« on: March 20, 2024, 04:00:56 pm »
Also make sure you don't place on your map any tiles with index above 253 (I believe, or very similar). You can have more tiles in your tileset(s), but anything above 253 should be a death tile (used when you destroy some other tile).

Not 100% sure about 253, maybe it's 252 or even 254.

If you ignore this rule, your map will be saved, but won't work correctly in the game - the problematic tiles will disappear.

Hi! Sorry it took me so long to respond, various real life stuff has really taken over my free time and energy, and I didn't want to half-ass this post, since it really caught my attention and it deserves a proper reply.

- EXALT Infiltrator: a straight up upgrade. The old one makes me feel embarrassed; yours is nicer, better, sexier and captures the original spirit. I'd use it on the spot. (Not sure which hair is best, but I like the no number and 2 best.)
- Red Dawn Ganger: very cool, but I think it's a bit too gangsta for the role. These guys are supposed to be boring and mundane everyday citizens, and all this bling and smoke give them too much character. But it's perfect for a mobster, I'd be happy to use it somewhere (maybe some new Osiron unit?).
- Dagon Follower: hmm, it's a big departure from the basic concept, so I'm a bit hesitant, but I dig it. I'd seriously consider it.
- Red Dawn Lad with a beard: looks pretty cool, but a bit too "ethnic" to represent a generic Red Dawn guy.
- Red Dawn Lad with a kevlar vest: I'm not that sadistic. :) This is a low level unit, and I would have to bump its armour to something like 20. (Yes, low level EXALT units have bulletproof vests, but they're overall weaker than Red Dawn people.)
- EXALT Cleaner: Very cool concept, I would use if if I ever need a new unit. But maybe add some hair to make him look less like the MiB pilot. Perhaps they could be added to some rare-ish slot, we'll see.
- Chief Engineer: good sprite, but he looks way too much like a pilot or a riot officer. Our guy is primarily a lab technician.

So, to sum up: there are some very neat upgrades which I would like to use if you are OK with it. Others are interesting, but would be more appropriate for new units, if I ever make them. But all are very nice sprites.

On an unrelated note, I keep getting the "Idiot" condemnation for my over reliance on the spikey SMG and I'm feeling a little attacked. It's a great weapon, I swear!

I also think it is great! So I'm an idiot, too.
Idiot pride!

Since I need to make more human factions anyway, there might be some (other than MiB) that use titanium. We'll see.
