I would still have liked a tutorial sequence, but I suppose a manual is more practical. I am afraid it might put off some players, but then again, if one is not patient enough to read a manual, they have no hope of playing XCOM.

I think turrets would have to be defined as a whole new type of item.

How about this:

Code: [Select]
items:
 - type: STR_TURRET_ROCKET_CANNON
   weapons:
      - STR_ROCKET_LAUNCHER
      - STR_HEAVY_CANNON

To be honest, I feel that a lot of the mods for OpenXcom lack balance, but the community element is there.

Great idea, Tarvis. As long as the tutorial is independent of the main game so that there would be no hand holding, that seems like the best, although perhaps not the simplest way to approach this.

The only thing I don't like about this is that I am going to have to do some massive uncluttering...

I really think that maintaining simplicity here is key. The idea is, tank chassis and weapons would be independent of each other. Of course there would be a variable that defines whether a weapon can be mounted on a tank, and I also think tanks should be able to have two weapons.

So you're saying that mods should display how easier or harder they make the game? Not a bad idea, but I think this is best left to player judgment.

OpenXcom could really use some publicity, and this would be just the way to bring in tons of new players, or those who have only played XCOM 2012. On a side note, however, there really needs to be some sort of tutorial function, as the game can easily become overwhelming to new players.

Wow, this is some really cool stuff... I suppose a 3D OpenXcom is not such a pipe dream after all.

Personally I think the Steam package should include both OXC and DosBOX.

What possible reason would you have for using DOSBox instead of OpenXcom? If you just want nostalgia, the original data files are still there, just download DOSBox manually and run the game with that.

If a soldier can carry a blaster launcher and several blaster bombs for it without being slowed down, I highly doubt that a tank, weighing far more than any soldier, would be slowed down even marginally by such a weapon.

1. I would really like a replay function for the Battlescape. I was thinking along the lines of how UFO2000 does it: it just follows your camera around.

2. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Making the game "10% harder" is a very vague statement.

3. This could be implemented as a "Custom Difficulty" button on the difficulty selection screen, where you specify difficulty levels above Superhuman.

4. Well, changing the original implementation of almost anything in OpenXcom is strictly reserved for modding.

We should be able to start dismantling while still in battle... XD
We could open up new entrances that way... ^^

You would have to guard the guy with the power tools for say, 4 turns until the hole opens up, or something.
