Gotcha- my mistake of assuming all things being equal.  Thanks for the 411 on this.  I'll definitely try out Syndicate.  While I'm at it, I'll probably also check out Freesynd just to see what that's like.

This idea is along the lines of making life a bit more difficult for our poor, harried X-Com Commander.

New alien mission: the feint.  A UFO appears somewhere near your base.  You shoot it down and send your crack team out to take care of business on the ground.  Once your transport is some distance away- BAM!  A battleship or two or six land on your rose bushes and come a-knockin' on your front door.  Shouldn't happen too often but enough to make you think long and hard about how many guys to put on your transport.

This is probably more for a mod than the base game.  And no, I have no idea how easy or difficult it would be to implement something like this.

Thanks for that link- lots of good info there.  Syndicate's on my list of games to check out.

Question for Hythlodaeus- wouldn't you recommend Freesynd over the original?  Like for me, I would definitely recommend OpenXCom over the original at this point.

...downing UFOs is top priority; recovering alien artifacts is second; eating, sleeping & bathing are a distant ninth.
...your e-mails to SupSuper, Warboy & other devs always begin with: "Hey man, I'm hurtin'... Could you help me out?..."  :-[

Feel free to add any other symptoms.  :P

This looks cool- don't think I heard of it before.  Is it similar to X-Com (maybe the question should be if X-Com is similar to it since it looks like it was released before X-Com) in that there's both a strategic and a tactical side to it?  Also, you only have four agents throughout an entire game?  Or you can only send four out on any given mission?

LOL!  Hey Warboy- I gotta ask you something.  It seems that every other new Git build has a fix for the reapers.  I was hoping that you were just joking about it, but I guess not.  What makes the reaper such a pain in the butt compared to the other big units like the cyberdisc or sectopod?
