Depends where you live. A lot of countries have laws protecting derivative work in one context or another, but not all.

I am not sure, but i think derivative work follow a different pattern is not like Patent Law, wherein  obvious variations of a method, system or product would be covered. Everything that we create is based on something else, even EU was based on other games, the art work basically need to be created from the ground up of course you can simply do subtle changes to not "infringe" on another person work, and you are not allowed to use copyrighted material such as names or tiles, such as XCOM or Muton, or the specific art wor, such as song images and such, in the case of images if you create your own images then you are not violating the right of the original creator.

However i am not your IP advisor nor do i intend to be I am just a simple forum lurker.

Also there is one more thing that i forgot, copyright  is a little more abstract and the shades of gray exponentially increase, for example a case just finished over the summer, Apple vs Samsung, there were a few patent involved but there was also a design issue, Apple argued that Samsung had copied the "look and feel" of their OS,  to cut the story short, Apple won, so even if you were to implement all brand new art and sprites and logo you could still be found liable due to following the exact same methodology. So in order to prevent that an overhaul of all the GUIs would be required, of course if the elements are not hardcoded then remapping them would be simple, as such in this case implementation will be different such that an old XCOM vet can see XCOM DNA in the game but it will not be confused with XCOM, anyway, i think i am going over board.

i think you are right but wasn't it freeware?

i remember a few of the art people were doing the work for free and loading it as freeware, maybe i am wrong, I stop following a long time ago.

Suggestions / Are Medals/Awards on the table for future release?

I have done a really quick search about medals or awards and i have not seen anything.

Is an award system aa possible feature that could be implemented, not now but maybe later? i had posted a similar idea in another forum forgot which, you know some to say this unit this something amazing, or whatnot.

here is the idea

would it be better if instead of making them separate you simply add a marker like they you in the military

5 Kills = first award = Ribbon
10 Kills = second award = bronze star on ribbon
20 kills = 3rd award = 2nd bronze start on ribbon
it coudl be made that every 20 kills you get a bronze start up to 3 in a ribbon once that is reach the next award will be a silver start so
at 80 Kills = silver start
then like at 250 kills = a gold start and you could get like 3 gold stars

it was posted in the Xenonauts forums it is a huge thread, anyway just an idea if no one else has brought it up :)

Hello everyone,

i know i have been out of contact for a long time, but as far i am remember TTS had a lot of improved art work created as open source, does anyone know what happened to all that art, wouldn't it feasible to contact the creators and ask them to use it here, As far as i remember it was open source so as long s this project gives proper credit will be OK.

in that case a simple notification window could work. or maybe a "live" battle log with in the battlespace GUI, something you can click and will show the main events in combat,
Agent A kill Alien A
Alien B Kills Agent A
 
and so forth. and then at the end of the mission the log stating how died who got promoted, you know the standard stuff.

I think the best way will be to leave the screen as it is and simply center them, the battlescape can be enhanced to show more tiles as it was mentioned and then the other screen will just be floating windows on top of the battlescape. That way there is no weird proportions errors.

That can be even done base view screen, of course sometimes it might be a little small so maybe a 2X might be good.

I agree, knowing who got killed is good, and i think it would simple enough to added to the mission log.

I was in creative text dept. I am not a programmer, i can read and used to debug at one point in my life but didn't keep up with it. :S

It is nice this project is moving a long nicely, i hope eventually original art will be created for this game.

Hello all,

Before i start i have not downloaded the translated doc, i am just going from the forum conversation.

I know i am late in this, I agree with nouns not being translated but i guess if you are in a spanish speaking society you are not going to start screaming "snakeman!" you will probably say "¡un hombre culebra!" or more likely "¡un mounstro!" :). About the idea culebra as a feminine noun... not so much.

In any case the reason for posting was for the phrase "click" to "haz click", personally i do not like that, i know is the common lingo but a 'more reasonable translation' would be  "presione | presiona" depending on the conjugation being used. 

anyway just my $0.02

Hello everyone,

Jei from the USA, I have been watching finally decided to join, I am a computer Engineer, that likes game development, i have tried to help in many teams, sadly they all have "followed the light" Have played Xcom since... it was released it was the only think that kept me sane while in the service :D Attempted to help in Xenocide, with good old RedKnight.

In any case i hope the project keeps moving forward, maybe i will help out with the Spanish translation there are a few strings that i don't like and considered incorrect Spanish.
