i guess you mean the "stapler"? it's an almost guaranteed drop on warehouse war missions (wrench too) - those missions unlock by building the mess hall.

...if a players tries to send a craft to a distant mission the game might issue a warning about insufficient fuel ...

In Geoscape, klick on "Set the course" and choose a craft from the list. you will see how far you can get

hunting rifle has 50 - 200 damage spread, which makes it one of the best weapons for rookies in the early game (becaus it actually kills stuff)

private car is not only the car per se, but also the attached leasing jet :); same goes for the humvee i guess
the speed of the helicopter is ok if compared to actual crafts like the Eurocopter from Airbus

i guess the mod still needs a few round of balancing, like manufacturing times, sell prices and so on.
Personally i've increased the sell price for the Mongorn Anzug tenfold, just out of immersion/roleplay considerations

regardless of the fetishes of ExperimentX - he has a valid point insofar that the male path could use a little bit of love and distinction.
So - stuff i'd like to see: make the whole superslave/batglas/green lighter chain exclusive to male path. Thematically, it would fit even better there, imho

Are their any essential techs at the start of the game I should be focusing on? I am aware there is a sort of "time pressure" in the mod in the form of the ninjas that will give you around an in game year till they become a real issue if I'm not mistaken.

I also tend to get stuck 6 or 7 ish months in where my score tanks even though I'm doing well (capturing as much people as a can, researching as much as I can and getting as much runts as possible to produce x-grog/money on the side), I suppose its down to bad luck though at the same time I have horrible feeling I'm likely missing something very obvious like I often do haha.

the hammer is kind of "ranged" weapon, it's attack is a snap shot. Therefore hammer attacks follow the CQC rules (which you can disable somewhere)
if you attack the shambler with a knife or an axe, this won't happen. The hammer is mostly useful for bashing walls
