Offtopic / Re: Anyone Play Master of Magic?

Most civ based games are dumbed down compared to this game.
It's kinda like comparing Xcom to Xcom 2.

Offtopic / Anyone Play Master of Magic?

Some of you may be a retro gamer like myself.
Having played countless hours of Xcom back in the day on a old DOS computer, I might be dating myself  ::)

Anyhow I was wondering if there are any others here who have played Master of Magic?
In my opinion, MoM is to the fantasy strategy genre just like Xcom is to the scify strategy genre.

I have seen others try to get a community going to resurrect the game but it was not as successful as this one was.
Anyone know of any strong community supporting the game?
FYI the game can be bought for a few dollars on gog.com

@hellrazor Thanks for the link  :) but that is of no help.
Actually, unless its something I'm overlooking, I'll be surprised if I get any additional mods to work.

@Meridian

You might be right, stranger things have happened.
I might Skype call you but no thanks on the desktop sharing.

I hope you are right and I'm overlooking something.
Please PM me with your Skype info and a good time to call (I'm on Western time).
....err I assume this forum has PMs?

Thanks for the screenshot  8)

However, I have been up and down in the list several times and dont see the mods.
(sorry I should have disclosed this previously)

I have not seen how scrolling the mods list mechanic works, please indulge me.

:( I recently made a couple of posts about being unable to get Final Mod Pack to work.
Despite uninstalling are wiping everything then reinstalling...nothing works.

I do have a background in IT so please do not respond with "do you know where mods go?" and "do you know how to put files or folders in your mods folder?".
I am well versed in moving and finding and unzipping files and have done similar things with other games and software several times in the past.

I have tried different mods; unzipping my mods to the "mods" folder and they do not appear in game in the mods list at all!
I tried both putting the whole mod folder in and when that didn't work I deleted it, then pulled out the individual files and unzipped them to the mods folder.
Nightly starts up fine and going to the mods section shows no additional mods.....WTF?
I tried several other mods and its the same result every time.

I am using the Steam version of Xcom as my original install and I the installed Nightly: openxcom_git_master_2017_01_27_1156.exe
Upon Installing Nightly it properly sees and points to the Steam version just fine.
New games in Nightly start up fine and the Nightly mods appear in the list as normal.

I'm starting to wonder if there is something wrong with either the Vanilla Steam version of Xcom or The version of Nightly I'm using?
I have uninstalled and reinstalled both Steam Xcom and Openxcom several times.

I'm at a loss...any advice?
Should I use a different OpenXcom version?

More info:
I'm using Windows 7 Professional (full Windows updates)
Latest version of Nightly: openxcom_git_master_2017_01_27_1156.exe
Latest Steam version of Xcom installed
I have followed in detail the Ivan Dogovich youtube video installment instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L1WUpX9n7gY

Thanks in advance but I really need some advanced help here  8)

I have been having issues trying to get any downloaded mods to work (they never show in the mods list).
I'm using the openxcom install over the latest steam version.
Windows 7
I recently tried the Final ModPack and so decided to try the Awesome Guns Mod.

However the install instructions call for putting it in the:

Copy the extracted Ruleset/AwesomeGuns.rul file into your openxcom/data/Ruleset folder.
Copy the extracted Resources/AwesomeGuns folder into your openxcom/data/Resources folder.
(then I have to add the patch)

Looking in my Openxcom folder there is no data file present.
Should I add one manually? Or is there something in the game should be doing to add it and thus my manual adding would be futile?

Help appreciated

@   jackts

I'm currently having the same issue with the Final Mod Pack.
I started a topic about it but have yet to receive any usable solutions.

I have reinstalled both the original xcom from steam and also Open Xcom but it dosent show in my mods list either.

Yes I put it in the mods folder inside of the user file....twice.
Nightly loads just fine and the mods included in it seem to work as well.
The mods section of Nightly appears to be operating correctly as I can click yes and no to turn them on and off.
I'm ar a loss why Nightly does not appear there after unzipping it to the user file.

More information: I'm using Windows 7
My original version of xcom comes from steam (recently installed).
I played about three months of ingame time on vanilla and then decided to go to Nightly.
I was able to successfully transfer my vanilla saved game over and it opens in Nightly just fine.

I consider myself computer savvy and finding and transferring files is no biggie.
Thanks for trying to help but I would like to get more input before I wipe everything out.

Troubleshooting / Unable to Properly Install Final Mod Pack?
« on: February 05, 2017, 07:24:08 pm »
Hello all, new forum member here and longtime Xcom oldschool fan speaking.

I have run into an issue installing the newest Final Mod pack in the newest version of Nightly.
Before I explain I would like to note that just before I installed Nightly I made sure to follow the forum link from the official download section to make sure I had the newest version. I then did the same with the Final Mod Pack.
(All downloaded yesterday 2-4-17)

I made sure to properly unzip the Final Mod Pack to the mods folder inside my openxcom folder.
Anywho, the game launches fine but when I go to look for new Interceptors or weapons or equipment that were added, nnone were listed.
I went to the mods section of the game and enabled several things but did not see "Final Mod Pack" there.
Nor did I see anything regarding additional weapons or equipment or Interceptors.

Is there something I missed in installing or enabling it?
As far as I know, I followed the directions off the installation video on the front page of the website.

Can I get any details for installing or enabling the newest Final Mod Pack?

Much thanks in advance
~Iron Sights
