I try to assault landed ufos, almost never shoot it down - I hope it counts as interception) Anyway, game never punished me for ignoring flying UFOs as long as I don't let them take off.  :D

I don't use it, and I don't know anyone who uses it.

But it's quite nostalgic, true.

Count me then :). I like to decide whether bring IN rounds or Flares, Plasmas or Lasers, more Scanners or more Medikits. It's always a challenge to decide about Smokes and Proxies. Without limit it's less tactic more action. No limit is perfect for some mods, I accept.

Motion Scanner detects motion, not brain waves, so why?

Or do you mean changing how the scanner works and make it just detect nearby units instead?

Idk if that is possible at all. I saw posted requests about detection of units even if they did not move.
In case MotionScanner is a derivative from Mind Probe it will detect all units in the zone no matter if they moved or not hence it will be a "Scanner".

On second thought, perhaps humanity developed Motion Scanner based on sonars / microphones to be able to detect movements behind the walls and pinpoint locations. That correctly makes Motion Scanner a tech available from the start. Oops.  :o

Well, how do they "scan" motions in the first place? Imo, humanity does not have much tech to get about it.

Quote
This sophisticated device uses a variety of detectors and advanced computer algorithms to identify moving enemy units.

My idea is to research Motion Scanner after we get hands on Mind Probe.

Lore and Justification:
Since Mind Probe reads creature's stats by probing into its "brain" (Live or Cyber). Mind Probe pretty much can estimate distances to any readable target or simply read its location on map. Key difference between Mind Probe and Motion Scanner would be similar to that of antenna - MindProbe is strictly directional and able to focus on the object at far distances while MotionScanner is omni-directional thus its range is really limited but detection is more like WiFi-covered area.

I searched the forum but did not see that MScanner was ever dependable on Mind Probe research however it brings novelty and explanation to that item.

Do you even play with vanilla 80 item limit? It's hilarious to impose that artificial boundary but I do prefer sticking to it. Allows for tactical challenge)

Lately, I'm thinking to justify Lightning (I also like it because of the door thing) by raising the items limit to 100. Kinda fresh craft, issues of the older rented craft resolved by engineering and they were so kind to squeeze in a couple more crates for gear. Avenger, on the other hand, is more packed for people/hwp therefore its limit could stay as 100 or barely raised to 110.

Under the proposed limit, Lightning would be a great craft for Night missions. Its name kinda fits)
What do you say, Commander?

Aye, Commanders) I am Anton from a country that never surrenders to Aliens))
X-com game is something I can cry about in happiness, fantasizing about Battlescape and those murky Night missions.

First heard about XCOM from a friend. We were in a military colledge back in 1996, he got access to a computer lab and poured some hours into it. Then I "played" xcom listening to his stories about the game in our free time after the night sleep call, in the cold barracks under the blanket. He wispered about shooting down UFOs, how his rookie got killed by a distant green shot from darkness and so on. I got very emotional about this game without even seeing it, partly because I was still around 14yo and badly wanted to play it. It was only 4 years later that I got my first PC (thanks, grandma!) and the first 3.5" floppies it got fed with were xcom!

Long story short, I am so happy to replay XCOM and Xenonauts every now and then. I used to play with savegames before Ironman and named them creatively. Now I just read titles of my savegames and get transported immediately into the Battlefield, in bright colors. I am so happy OpenXCom allows unlimited saves, so I got hundreds every playthrough. I remind myself how vividly scary it was when a "SCANNER REVEALED BODY" or finally in desperate need of money on Geo it was a "MIRACLE TO DISCOVER LANDING SITE 6". "THEY APPEARED OUT OF NOWHERE" is a classic one)

It's great to be among the minds alike) Cheers
