Troubleshooting / soldiers don't save loadout

recently redownloaded the game, and now my soldiers don't keep their loadout from one battle to the next. it's either auto loadout from equipment in the craft, or they carry nothing and i have to manually equip them every battle

Recently redownloaded this game, and now my pirates don't default to the loadout from their previous battle like they used to, and I'm not seeing any options to change that. Is that feature gone now, or am i doing something wrong?

I'm trying to hit my school graduation tech, but it's locked behind captains log #2 (needed for diplomacy) how do i get captains log 2?
