Help / Re: How to rotate camera and zoom (During battlescape)
« on: February 19, 2019, 04:56:36 pm »
Hmm
I guess it's 2d and not 3d then, Otherwise it can be done easy, I think.
Oh well... It still runs great on a laptop, and would work on a tablet.
A smartphone is pushing it a bit tho as things get pretty small.
Not knocking the game - after all, many games don't work well on small screens either.
I might actually get an android tablet just to play this game when I'm travelling. Can't think of a better game to play when stuck travelling for hours and hours.

Help / Re: Aliens vs Humans, Xenowar or OpenXcom for Android phone?
« on: February 19, 2019, 04:23:45 pm »
What's that? Can you explain?
Well, it's its too difficult for the program to do a fluid rotation. Maybe just choosing from 4 different viewing angles would be good. At 90 degree intervals - the same isometric view but from four different angles.
I thought the PSX version had this option, but maybe I'm mistaken

Not even a rotate in 90 degrees increments?
I thought I had that feature when I used to play the PSX version.
Maybe I'm mistaken though

The link didn't work because I right clicked 'open in new window'. Didn't realise it was a download link.
I've managed to do most of it, but I can't get my mods folder in the game folder, I can't find where the game folder is located in my android phone, so can't add the mod folder.

Update:
Strangley the openxcom folder wasn't showing on the file explorer when plugged into my computer, so I had to use a file editor in android itself to copy and paste the mo d folder in place.

It's all up and running now, thanks very much for taking the time.

I do wish there was a simple zoom, and a 90 degree incremental rotation option tho.
Apart from that, perfect.

Help / How to rotate camera and zoom (During battlescape)
« on: February 19, 2019, 10:55:48 am »
Hi
I was looking at the control, but can't find a rotate or zoom.
Hope I missed it only, the game would not be very useful without them, especially rotate.
Thanks

Thanks

Sorry, that link didn't work.
Also I've no idea what TFTD is  :/
'Install it, then run first time'  How to install on a smartphone though?

Plus after running the program, I need to put 'original game files' in some folders?
I'm sorry, I don't get this. How would the program even run without game files.
And where to get original xcom game files anyway?
I did look online, and apparently there are tutorials with the downloads, but I cant see any, the apk file downloads and there is no tutorial at all.
Maybe there is a youtube tutorial

Thanks

Help / Aliens vs Humans, Xenowar or OpenXcom for Android phone?
« on: February 18, 2019, 08:27:58 pm »
I'm unsure which version is the best for a small screen like a phone.
If the answer is OpenXcom, please can someone share the link to the download/instructions. I'm getting a bit confused navigating around.

Thanks
Ps: I don't think my phone is rooted etc, so I may not be able to load anything unofficial anyway.

Help / Re: Newbie here. Nightly build or final mod pack?
« on: February 16, 2019, 07:20:56 pm »
Thanks
The OpenXcom finds my steam installation automatically, but Extended doesn't.
To be honest i'm not a 'power user'. I have a suspicion the OpenXcom will be more than enough for me

Oops, that was a bad Idea
Extended doesn't seem to work with the Steam game.
It said no Xcom installation found.
The original OpenXcom installed without issue

Oh.
So many version it's a little confusing.
I just purchased Enemy within for mobile phone.. but not sure the screen is big enough to enjoy these types of games.

Not sure what I'm supposed to do with OpenXcomExtended.. I guess download it for pc and also separately on android.

Starting to sound confusing again lol

Update:
Oh I see you sent the actual link with guide in your post
Thanks again.

Help / Cant use medikit unless you equip it before battle?
« on: February 16, 2019, 03:57:31 pm »
Hi
I'm having trouble using the medikit in game.

I'm not carrying one in my hands, and I can't find a way to go to the soldier inventory and use it during battle.
I see no way to enter inventory and change things while actually on a mission.
Please advise

Help / Re: Newbie here. Nightly build or final mod pack?
« on: February 16, 2019, 03:09:31 pm »
Thanks
I see.
So you need the nightly build to be able to add mods. The nightly itself isn't actually a mod.
However, I'm using the Steam version of the base game, and I can't find the folder location mentioned in the mod install instructions.
Anyone have an idea how to install the Mods into the Steams version? There seems to be no 'Mods' folder present.

Thanks

Update:
My version was in Documets folder, not 'My games' folder.

I think its working now, Thanks
I'll try it out

Help / Newbie here. Nightly build or final mod pack?
« on: February 16, 2019, 12:00:15 pm »
Hi
I discovered this forum/game mod after looking for a game - modern, but as good as the first Xcom.
Still undecided if I should sink my teeth into Enemy within, Xenonauts, or one of these OpenXcom mods.

I've tried a nightly build .exe  It just installed straight into my steam folder itself.
Seems good.
I wondered what is the difference between a nightly, and the 'Final mod pack', and which one would be recommended for someone wanting to dive in to a 'definitive' fleshed out game.

Thanks..
And I bet you've been asked that before !
