Yes, it stacks for every power plant.

DOOM possessed and demons don't wait for a provocation; they attack and raid everyone and everything, including player owned hideouts. They're one of the few crackdowns that just happen like that.

Most crackdowns aren't done be infernal monsters and therefore have rational cause. Without simply listing everything from the .rul file, alien/human soldiers will try to invade your hideouts if you intercept their shipping, or become famous with world wide notoriety (a combination of researching some key technologies and achieving the higher Captain ranks).

Pyramid, not gaussian ;) (you'd need 3 rolls for gaussian distribution)
Pyramid distributions are still gaussian distributions; they're symmetrical with a mean and variance. To sate my professor's soul, one and even zero dice rolls are gaussian distributions as well, despite the former looking flat and the latter being unplottable.

There are multiple ways to anger both the Academy and the Guild, all of which involve researching their staff. Either by researching a collection of mid level VIPS or going for broke and researching a provost/guildmaster.

Keep doing missions and work towards building a squadron of craft to begin splashing their shipping.

XPiratez / Re: How to use Tiger Transport?
« on: January 06, 2024, 06:52:08 pm »
You don't directly. Tiger Transport are an abstraction to explain how your land vehicles can travel over the ocean, as well as explain how some ragtag pirates transfer equipment and personnel between bases all over the world (once you get to that stage). To attend the mission, get a vehicle with global range. Buying a V8 car or manufacturing a hunting party are a couple of options you have.

XPiratez / [Submod] Proactive ninjas
« on: January 05, 2024, 09:21:28 am »
This isn't my work; an anonymous user provided this and it's been left forgotten on my hard drive for a long time. I think it's worth pushing it here.

It's a submod, so unpack this into your user/mods directory, launch the game and enable it from the options menu to play it. Adds a couple of mission scripts that allows ninja airfields and outposts to begin spawning on the geoscape before the Pirate/Ninja war is officially declared proper. Compared to a vanilla game, the player would still pursue the typical escalation to encounter ninjas, but will probably see more ninja bases on the geoscape and sooner, as they work towards the war declaration. The submod also allows the player to throttle their progress with escalation, hold short on the war declaration and still have some token ninja base presence.

For those who want more ninja abuse sooner, and for those who only want a ninja-lite experience.

Do note I haven't actually played this and have zero experience with it, only opened it up in a text editor. I don't anticipate the scripts being out of date and broken with current OXCE, but I can't rule it out either. If you're interested, have at.

Car parts can indeed be bought in bulk once the required technologies have been researched.

That's intentional. The technology to build more hangars is a short trek down the tech tree, don't panic!

Post the end game victory score screen, you can't keep the campaign stats secret from us!

If you have a text editor, you're good to go diving into the .rul files.
Mapping is probably best done with MapView 2.
Sprite work can be done with MCDedit.

Check here for details.

I'm not sure I can give a correct worked example, but I'll have a stab (Very old legacy versions of XPZ did go into more detail about how to calculate the diminishing returns, but it took up a bunch of articles for what was essentially just trivia).

Durathread and shawl getting hit for 50 cold damage:
  • 1.7 starting cold resistance
  • 0.5 boundary resistance
  • 0.75 effectivity resistance
Delta boundary resistance
=1.7-0.5
=1.2

Multiply by effectiveness factor
=1.2*0.75
=0.9

Absolute effectiveness
=1.2-0.9
=0.3

Total resistance change
=1.7-0.3
=1.4

Therefore damage incurred
=50*1.4
=70 (so 15 less damage than if you were not wearing a shawl)

Or something like that. I only know of one person who has memorised the full process apart from Dioxine. Everyone else just play by a few maxims:
  • If the boundary resistance is better than the armour resistance, then it can be useful
  • If you have spare capacity and you really don't know what to carry, then you can consider protective utility items
  • If the paperdoll shows naked skin, you'll probably have a sad time in the mountains/arctic
  • If the paperdoll doesn't show naked skin, you'll probably have a sad time in the jungle/desert
  • If you find a way to wear multiple hats/vests/leggings, don't expect them to stack
  • If you think you know how the RF calculation really works, you're probably mistaken
  • Hail gasmasks

Full bootypedia article on the subject:
'A class of items which boost Resistances of worn armor.
These items usually fit only certain slots in warrior's equipment, and start to work only the next half-turn after equipping. Effects usually stack unless items share same Gear Type, and even then, only Resistance Factor (RF) doesn't stack. RF is spelled as follows:
>Effectivity: by what factor Resistance is improved between current value and Boundary;
>Boundary: if the current resistance is at this level or better, effect is zero. By stacking, you can approach this value, with diminishing returns, but never reach it.
Lower numbers are better.'

There's a lot going on in one article. Just remember what legion has highlighted; the second number is the floor, and should be compared to the resistance value of your armour. If your armour already has a resistance lower than the floor, then the item is useless to you.

And no, you can't wear multiple hats. And even if you do find a way to equip multiple hats, you'll only get the benefit from one of them.

There is the Wasteland Sorceress event to kick the chain off; given enough time she is guaranteed to appear as long as you're not on the easiest difficulty. As long as you have researched the rights to buy voodoo equipment from the olde magic shoppe, you're mostly good to go.

The actual Red Mage Quest itself will enter the pool around the time the player has geared up for level B bounty missions.

There are a number of tech requirements involved. Do you have B rank bounty hunts unlocked?

Mortar is a good option, it's simply a question of how many shells can you move from the loot pile to the mortar operator. It is genuinely a slow process, so starting the bombardment with one or two chem shells can speed things along.

EMP grenades, minibombs and even the superconductive cannonball can slowly and safely do the job from behind cover.

Direct fire weapons can be suicide; the turret will always begin the turn with a reaction score of 35, which is enough to react on any of your soldiers who fire sniper rifles or heavy weapons. Attacking at night will prevent it from reacting if you're hiding in darkness, then it's just a question of finding ninjas in the dark.

Never end your turn out in the open as the turret has sniper AI, regardless if it's a night mission or not. On the enemy turn it can absolutely attack anyone not hiding behind solid cover and LoF blocking terrain.
