Open Feedback / Re: TFTDs Music - Different Versions?
« on: September 10, 2015, 08:57:28 pm »
Indeed, they all sound almost the same to me too. I personally like this version.
It's sort of an enhancement of the PSX music, like UFO PSX music compared to original.
The only problem is you need to rename them accordingly.

Work In Progress / Re: [Request] Extra facilities for human base

How about making layout variations for the facilities built more often (living quarters, laboratory, workshop) and randomly choose the layout of the room in the base defense mission, is that possible?

Troubleshooting / Re: Data Patching
« on: June 05, 2014, 10:59:36 pm »
Here's how I do it (Win7 Pro 64bit):

Create folder OpenXcom, create two folders inside: data and user (I like to keep the settings/saves inside the game folder).

Inside the Steam installation folder there is a folder called XCOM. From this location you copy the following folders: GEODATA, GEOGRAPH, MAPS, ROUTES, SOUND, TERRAIN, UFOGRAPH, UFOINTRO, UNITS. These are all the folders/files you need.

So the file structure right now is something like this:

OpenXcom /
            => / data /
                      => / GEODATA /
                      => / GEOGRAPH /
                      => / MAPS /
                      => / ROUTES /
                      => / SOUND /
                      => / TERRAIN /
                      => / UFOGRAPH /
                      => / UFOINTRO /
                      => / UNITS /
           => / user /

After this download the universal patch and extract its contents inside the data folder, overwriting the existing files.

As a side note (this is just how I do it, so it's optional) I delete all the files inside the folder SOUND and go to this site and download the preffered Music and Sound files. As an example, I personally use Playstation (PSX) music set in OGG format and Original UFO: Enemy Unknown 1.0/1.2 DOS Sound Effect Set, others might have different preferences.

At this point I would archive the whole OpenXcom folder, give it a name like OpenXcom-data and keep it somewhere safe, such that I have a "clean" data set and to not have to repeat this whole process again.

Next step is downloading the prefered nightly, put it in the same place as the OpenXcom folder an extracting it in place. There should be no problems (at least I haven't had any).

Good luck

Troubleshooting / Re: Weird audio glitch
« on: May 21, 2014, 03:22:09 pm »
What format do you use for music? Midi, mp3 or ogg?
I recommend you pay a visit here and download one of the OGG ones. You can find here more on how to use custom music.
You then either delete the midi files or in the new options screen for Audio you choose the source as OGG.
See if this will fix your troubles.

Troubleshooting / Re: Grafic filter --> grey screen
« on: December 23, 2013, 10:05:16 am »
The config file should be in "My Documents\openxcom\user". My suggestion is to delete the openxcom folder from my documents and create an empty folder called "user" in your openxcom game folder. That way the config file will be located in this directory and not in "my documents".

If you had specific settings and want to keep those, you have to edit the "options.cfg" file located in the "user" folder. Open it with a text editor (Notepad, Notepad++, etc) and look for the lines and modify them as:
useOpenGLShader: Shaders/Openxcom.OpenGL.shader
useOpenGL: false

Yup, no police siren. It's in the beginning with the searchlights.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuRzCHaeyXY

Pretty subtle, but y'know :P

Oh, my bad, I thought this was about the XCom siren/screams/other sounds which are absent from the gold edition. After more thorough listening the police siren and the thud just before the XCom siren are the obvious differences.

You leave me no choice :P

Here is how the intro video looks on my machine - ignore the crappy framerate (first time I tried recording). I use the intro music files from Cydonia's Fall, and the intro sound effect file (SAMPLE3.CAT) from the Original UFO: Enemy Unknown 1.0/1.2 DOS Sound Effect Set from fenyo's website.

The siren sounds/screams/weapon fire sounds are not on the soundrack, they are in the sound effects files. If you look at my post above you can get it there. I use it with the playstation soundrack.

You cand go to Fenyő’s Music & Sound Effects Collection site for OpenXcom, and at the bottom of the page there is the line: Original UFO: Enemy Unknown 1.0/1.2 DOS Sound Effect Set: UFO-EU_DOS_SOUNDS.ZIP - download that file, and extract it to the SOUND folder, overwriting the existing ones.
This is what i use. It has all the sounds you are looking for.

This is really nice. I like the sharper text, it's especially usefull when playing in higher resolutions.
Found a bug though, and marked where i think the error lies. In the screenshot, it is used "Reïncărcare" instead of "Reîncărcare".
