Troubleshooting / Re: Tunnel vision/stuck filter problem.

Not sure why you're using the "user" folder, that's not the standard installation.

Anyway, if you're using it, please at least put it somewhere else... NOT in the "Program Files" or any other system-protected directory.

Huzzah! I really should have tried moving it from Program Files earlier as I know that can cause problems. It seems to have gone back to default options setting even when I close and restart the game after installation.

As for being standard or not I haven't moved folders around; I have what the installer gives me. It might be because I'm using the portable installation option.

What OS are you playing on?

Normally the game doesn't take options.cfg from openxcom/users, it takes it from Users/<youruser>/Documents/Openxcom... try searching there.

Btw. have a look into openxcom.log file... you will find there, where is the options.cfg file taken from... game writes it in the log.
For example, from my log file:

Code: [Select]
[12-08-2017_16-00-09]   [INFO]   Config folder is: C:\Users\Meridian\Documents\OpenXcom\

I'm on Windows 7. Also, don't forget I'm using the nightly.

This is what I get from the log file: Config folder is: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenXcom\user\

I'm going to try installing it a location later or using 1.0.

The options should reside in C:\Users\Bollocks\Documents\OpenXcom\options.cfg
You can try setting
Code: [Select]
options:
  displayWidth: 1280
  displayHeight: 720
  fullscreen: false
  asyncBlit: true
  keyboardMode: 1
  maxFrameSkip: 0
  traceAI: false
  verboseLogging: false
  StereoSound: true

The game doesn't seen to be taking its ques from the options.cfg file in the openxcom/users folder. You can see my options.cfg file below. Note that fullsceen is set to false, yet it always plays in fullscreen, except from the install auto start up.

Safest way of getting your answer is to search your entire harddisk for files called "options.cfg"... delete them all (after peeking inside all of them, just to make sure they are really openxcom and not something else) and try again.

The search turned up nothing. I've tried re-installing both the original X-Com and Open X-Com and the problem still remains.

[/size]Can I not change the options.cfg file to get rid of the filter? After the auto start-up after instillation I tried using restore defaults button in the options menu but it didn't work.[size=78%]

Troubleshooting / Tunnel vision/stuck filter problem.
« on: August 10, 2017, 07:08:09 pm »
After a few years away I returned Open X-Com with a fresh install of the most recent nightly (2017 08 10). I played around with the filters a bit and it crashed and now it's stuck on one which results in a small circle of the game screen visible, like tunnel vision. I've uninstalled and reinstalled twice but the problem remains. The game runs fine from the automatic start from the installer but after exiting and restarting the game has switched to full screen plus tunnel vision.

Are my user options stored elsewhere? I'm using portable installations and deleting user data when uninstalling.

Okay, I've managed to get XAE downloaded. Don't know what I was doing wrong. Anyway, thank you both for your help.

Indeed, the link in the first post does not seem to work anymore. It may be that this mod is not maintained anymore?

If I may point you towards my mod, the XCom Armoury Expanded, you will find the sniper rifle taken from this mod, a shotgun, and their laser equivalents in the main ruleset, along with a wide selection of other stuff that's entirely optional in other rulesets.

Thank you! Is this known to clash with other weapon mods? I have Alien Armory Expanded, and Warboy1982's Tactical & Reinforced Shotguns mods.

EDIT: I'm also getting the same error message when I try to download your mod from the link provided. Is it because I'm a newb to this forum? Anyone aware restrictions for new members?

The OpenXcom.com site has had some challenges.  In the Opening Post of this forum thread, you will find downloads for the mod.  These threads serve as alternate locations for the downloads, often times.

Cheers, Ivan :D

Like Brian, when I follow the links in the opening post I get a message saying 'An Error Has Occurred!' and that 'You are not allowed to enter this section'

Sorry for the bump, but the download link isn't working.  When I click the link in the first post or in Warboy's post on page 2, I get:

An Error Has Occurred!

You are not allowed to access this section

Same. Also, trying to get this mod from https://www.openxcom.com/ (in the 'most downloaded') it actually sends you to another mod altogether (one for a laser sniper rifle).

Can anyone shed some light on this?
