Released Mods / Re: [HWP/Resource] Alloy Ground Tanks v1.4
« on: January 13, 2016, 11:43:23 pm »
G-g-g-g-gravedig!

This mod has been updated to the new nightly structure, and inventory has been disabled on the alloy tanks, which should hopefully resolve any errors. I did about 5 mins of testing in a quick battle on my end, so let me know ITT if you run into any trouble.

Released Mods / DOOM SKILL LEVELS (literally the best mod)

In a bout of silliness, I decided OXC needed a little more sass in the difficulty selection screen.

I present to you: DOOM SKILL LEVELS.

(Note: Makes absolutely zero change to actual gameplay.)

Was perusing some of the sprites from UFO2000, and was inspired by the laser weapons. So, introducing the laser family mk3.

Also, had to zip up all the bigobs into an archive to attach them, as it seems 5 is the max attachments you can have.

Programming / Re: OpenXcom 1.1

I've been around ye olden internettes a long time, and here's the #1 problem open-source/freeware/fan-made projects run into: dev burnout.

So honestly, Warboy, SupSuper, all yall - fuck trying to please everyone. You do exactly what is easiest - and most fun - for you. If that means making nightlies less accessible, slowing down progress, backtracking, whatever - you do what you need to do. People will bitch and moan no matter what you do. That's just how humans work. So do what you think is best. If anyone disagrees too strongly with you, they can make their own fork or whatever else - otherwise they can dealwithit.jpg

Also, bear in mind, you guys could quit right NOW, and we already have a better Xcom than we've ever had before. You've done it - you've won. The project wasn't abandoned at v0.037 (or whatever) like so many other unpaid projects littering the tubes. We have a complete, playable, new-and-improved game, and we have y'all to thank for that.

If I were you, I would just seal off OXC at either 1.0 or whichever nightly you're most comfortable with, and rename all the new nightlies OpenTFTD - essentially making it its own project. That way you don't have to worry about TFTD support interfering with OXC gameplay, and anyone playing the latest builds would be doing so essentially as beta-testers for project#2, OTFTD. If that makes sense.

Either way, you do what you want/need to do, end-users can suck it up.  :)

Since the OXC default ruleset is in its own subfolder now, does that mean mod subfolders are a possiblity in the near future?

Offtopic / Re: TF2 Xcom team

For those of us not familiar with TF2, you might want to be more specific as to what type of equipment you are referring to.

There are 9 classes in TF2, with these default loadouts (primary/secondary/melee):

Scout - scattergun (shotgun), pistol, baseball bat
Soldier - rocket launcher, shotgun, shovel
Pyro - flamethrower, shotgun, fire axe
Demoman - grenade launcher, sticky (grenade) launcher, whiskey bottle
Heavy Weapons Guy - minigun, shotgun, fists
Engineer - shotgun, pistol, wrench (for building immobile sentries, and stuff)
Medic - syringe gun, medigun ("weapon" with a healing beam), bonesaw
Sniper - sniper rifle, smg, kukri
Spy - revolver, sapper (destroys machinery), knife

The engineer and spy also have special "weapons" - engineer has a pip-boy-like apparatus for choosing buildings, and spy has a) an invisi-watch, and b) a disguise kit.

The weapons could all be easily made, if they don't exist already (minigun, shotgun, knife etc. exist), except perhaps for the engie's and spy's specials. Medigun could more-or-less be made with OXC Extended.

That being said, I don't know how well TF2 would work in X-COM, except for laughs.  :D

Work In Progress / Re: minimod: Elerium and Alloys Listed on Top

The original game had a 170-item hardcoded max for spawned items (source). I don't believe that's an issue anymore with OXC though.

Heh, I'm good at stirring up debate with off-hand remarks.  :D

Added another version of the laser rifle, with stock re-added. Honestly it probably looks better that way anyhow, yeah?

edit: Also, I hope ya'll noticed all the weapons have safeties. The alien apocalypse is no excuse for unsafe weaponry. Heh.

FYI, rifle stocks are used also to help steady the weapon against the shoulder for better aim.

Yeah but a laser rifle probably wouldn't be aimed via traditional sighting anyway, right? It's got a bright, built-in laser sight! I'd assume it could be fired as accurately from the hip as from the shoulder.

I dunno. :3

G-g-g-gravedig!

Sup, I've pitch-shifted these back down 'til they sound "about right" to my ears, if you want to re-up them.

Haha, well I'm not going to commit to anything because reasons (super-pregnant wife, 3-year-old, work etc) but you're welcome to use anything I do/have done for anything you wish! :D

Sorry, didn't realize you were doing all of them! I just saw your others and thought "hey, I should do that..."  :P
