Suggestions / Option for burst and automatic fire to happen successively

I've searched around the forum quite a bit and didn't find anything about it, but in the newer incarnations of the genre (even going as far back as Jagged Alliance 2), whenever you fire an automatic or burst-fire weapon, the bullets are all fired in, well, a burst.
Right now in the game you have to follow each bullet from the gun to its destination. I know changing the bullet speed makes this faster, but would it be possible to add an option to have the bullets be fired in a more burst-style? Or is the game coded around following each and every bullet to its destination?
I'm not sure if it related, but shotguns seem to have multiple projectiles that hit the destination at the same time.
