Work In Progress / Re: Terror From the Deep Remastered Soundtrack
« on: August 07, 2017, 08:02:13 pm »
Sorry for bumping the topic, but are you working on a new version, which adds some missing tracks and fix some current ones?

Did you get this issue resolved?

If you are wanting to get the Music from the games I think one of the best ways would be to play the Vanilla game using DosBox . . . that will play the internal midi music using the same sound libraries from the old days (ie, it will sound exactly the way they intended for it to sound). I used that technique to capture some music from Doom 2 also.

Then you record from the Stereo Mix using Audacity or some similar audio program.
This is a problem for TFTD though which has the "water sounds" playing on loop in the background for battlescape.
Unfortunately, no. And it looks like the problem will not be fixed with Fenyo's help, because  he didn't answer to pm :(

Of course, I can record UFO: EU adlib music by using DosBox, but I had on my disc... no, partition (hehe) recorded adlib music of UFO: EU by Fenyo, but I don't know how he do that, because I tried using any software that can rip the adlib music from UFO: EU .cat files and the riped files doesn't play in Winamp. Now I have that disc in IT service, because one partition has been "corrupted" (there's a data in that partition, but Windows can't show this data. Windows shows only my customized partition letter, which is "Y", but the name shows default ["Local disc", which means 'Dysk lokalny' in polish ;P], but this is not important. Also, DosBox wan't updated for very long time and the OPL3 soundchip I think needs some corrections. In my opinion, some instruments are "too short" played (I called it as "cutting instruments" :P). This effect I have while testing OPL3 in Doom 2 on MAP01. The only thing is that I don't know are some other people hear that I just wrote :P

Work In Progress / Re: UFO/TFTD hybrid game discussion

Quote from: Hobbes
* One nice thing to add would be that the T'Leth mission would be a suicidal one, since the city explodes at the end of TFTD so you'd lose both the craft and the soldiers. Who do you choose to die on that mission?
The players would hate this.

Let's do it! :D
Why? I like to devote the characters (in this game - best soldiers) of the game, because #YOLO :D But srsly now, I like to devote, because in real life if I will be that soldier I will devote myself to safe the world from global and important problem, if it will be necessary.

About the rest, well, I'm not sure about that. I think both UFO: EU and X-COM: TftD should be separate games for OpenXcom. We don't know how will react new gamers/forum users if it will be implement.

Translations / Re: The new system can be destructive for the translation!
« on: September 06, 2014, 10:32:19 pm »
I previously proposed a switch to Transifex. It operates similarly to GetTranslate, the main difference being there is no voting system whatsoever.

Or use Crowdin :P

I understood your problem, Mr Grzeogrz. I will try to follow your propositions, vote your strings and watch out while translating to Polish. Please also report my bad propositions of translation and maybe GetLocalization admins or SupSuper will delete this. I'm translating, because I like it, but I'm not a polonist like you, but it's nice to have a professional teacher like you :)

It will be nice, but I don't know it's possible to code it :P

Open Feedback / Re: Newbie: should I play Openxcom, or original version?
« on: August 29, 2014, 09:45:26 pm »
Play OpenXcom. It has fixed ALL bugs and glitches, only some of them can be fixed with patch included in the OXC installer, but this patch can be downloaded and installed separately. OXC is translated to many languages, has support for many mods (I suggest to play mostly with mods by my Polish friend - Solarius [hehe ;p]) and with some turned on advanced options :)

I'm not sure about proper place of this topic, so moderators or admins can move this topic to another department of this forum if it's necessary.

Okay, let's stay on the topic, so as the title says: Is there any way to rip DOS music of UFO: EU and TftD from .cat files? I've tried to rip the music using a program, which I can't remember the name now, but it didn't work. When I try to play .raw files in Winamp with AdPlug plugin, there's no sound. Winamp just didn't play any of this files. However, there wasn't any problem with sfx. Almost every sfx file was played correctly both in Winamp and other audio programs including for example Audacity. Any idea?

@Edit
I just discovered japanese program called hoot... but quality of UFO: EU and TftD soundtracks are terrible :/

Work In Progress / Re: Remastered Sounds Project (demo available!)
« on: July 30, 2014, 02:36:30 pm »
OGG can be much smaller with negligible loss in quality. And yeah, I think a couple of the original sounds are a little longer than the X-Com versions, obviously that'll be fixed if/when I put this out for real, it's just sort of a proof of concept at this point.

Maybe you will upload two versions? I mean with .ogg sounds and second with .wav? ;) I think .wav are better, but it's mine opinion :)

Nice, but I think some sounds are too long or not remastered. And why .ogg instead of .wav?

Nice work again ;)
