Ok, I have an update to this situation. I tested the install on a different computer and it crashed there too. That made me suspect many things, one of which was the UFO/TFTD folders. Usually I would just transfer those from normal OpenXcom into XPiratez. Worked just fine for many a version. After this suspicion however, I decided to get the folders from the original games again. Doing that made everything startup just fine. The files must have been corrupted or incompatible somehow. Perhaps just incomplete, idk.

So, if your shit is crashing for no apparent reason, make sure those folders are in tiptop shape!

Thanks for the help and sorry for the false positive!

Absolutely. By the way, I saved the dump files from the windows crash message too. Thought they might be useful. I can upload them if needed.

1# Yes, clean install. Twice.

2# It's in portuguese, but this seems to be a standard crash message that windows gives for just about any program.

XPiratez / Xpiratez/OXCE Issues
« on: July 19, 2019, 10:06:26 pm »
OK, I'm not even sure if I should call this a bug report.

I downloaded the newest version of Xpiratez after a long hiatus. Tried to start it and it crashed immediately. It does not provide me with an explanation in the command prompt window, as seems to be normal. It just dies and gives me that standard crash message from microsoft.

The logs don't really tell me anything. It figures out the directories, warns me about a missing splash image (even though it's right there), and then crashes once it starts loading the rulesets. Using my config file from the old version gives me the splash image. Not sure what's up with that...

Anyway, I tried some standard troubleshooting, but that did not work. Eventually, I started suspecting the OXCE executable (v5.4.1) was the problem. Decided to start the executable from my old version (v3.10b), and use the newer Xpiratez files. It tried to load and then crashed, but it seems to be due to incompatibilities. The error was explained in the window and all.

After that, I tried just running standard OXCE (v5.5) that I got from here, and it crashed too, which is why I post this here and not on the Xpiratez board. The logs from that are the same as previously. Starts loading rulesets and dies. So, what should I do? I'm at a loss about this really, totally out of my depth.
